Took my Maverick in to see what the problem was.

Dealer said they didn’t do anything to fix the issue and just to drive it more. They kept my truck for over a week just to tell me that.

I'd be pretty livid with that result (or lack thereof).

How many miles do you have on it? I've read of some people complaining of a smell during break in, which is normal. Your dealer was probably trying to replicate the concern and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

About 450 miles.

I hope that it just needs to be broken in, but after seeing that post where somebody’s catalytic converter was glowing after using remote start makes me not so convinced that’s what it is

I am. They told me it would only take about 2 days to diagnose and they had it for 9. Hope my new dealership isn’t as lousy as this one.

I'd give it a chance to burn off whatever is causing the smell and keep an eye on the cat in the meantime just in case. But with 450 miles, I'd lean toward this being a normal break in stench. That guy's glowing red cat was likely due to unburned fuel- your dealer should have seen a DTC when you brought it in. Since they didn't find a problem I'd doubt this applies to your situation.

All new cars take a while to start burning off.

think of the fresh pipes, cylinders, metals etc…

heating them will get smelly

Should I keep using remote start to break it in? I’m honestly afraid to use it now after the god awful smell that lingered in the cabin for a couple days.

this has been a widespread problem with only hybrids, remote start in cold confidtions. Many people have all had this happen so I don’t think it’s just break in. The engine also revs up and down during the process.

I wouldn't if you're using climate control. With the issues that people have been showing, I wouldn't leave it idling unattended. Not trying to fear monger but it's a known issue at this point and why push your luck. Once Ford identifies the issue and has a fix for it sure but better safe than having to pay to replace parts on your new truck.

I have almost 1200 miles, I bought the explanation that it was break in and coatings burning off like when you get new oven you have to burn it in. I have used the remote start a number of times but the smell has not gotten any better. I think now we have an issue which needs to be addressed by Ford ASAP, nothing on a car is supposed to be red hot like the catlaytic converter cuz if any fluid falls on it it will ignite. I am going to post it up on youtube as soon as I can. Hopefully that will get the attention of Ford to do something about this. Otherwise I love the truck.

I had the same issue w/ a Ford dealership years ago, I called to make an appointment and they had one that day which was surprising. I dropped it off and they told me it would take at least a business week to address the issue. It was a simple issue, so I said if they are busy just give me an ACTUAL appointment and I'll bring the car back that morning when they can actually get to it rather than just have it sitting at the dealer untouched for so many days. They just said that's not how it works...

Then you have Mercedes where I called to make an appointment, they greeted me instantly with no line at the service department, directed me to enjoy some coffee and little breakfast treats assortment, and in about 20 mins said they diagnosed the issue and about how many hours it would take to fix and walked me over to a loaner GLC SUV free of charge, and later that day let me know my vehicle was ready for pickup. Audi was much the same, except they apparently only hired supermodels as every guy was a square jaw fitness model and the girls in perfect makeup and dresses, lol!

In short, if you're wondering where Ford is saving money on the MSRP, I think its a lot on warranty/service to where you almost have to diagnose it yourself and then just let them confirm.

Yeah I realized that assumption from their tight-fitting dress shirts implied I got "extra" service to actually verify and play the xylophone on their abs...
