I’m getting tired of waiting so, I did some
Shopping. Found a Hyundai Santa Cruz. Shifty dealer wouldn’t say the price until I got a little
Rude about it.

50,000 big ones. 9k over msrp and “changing daily”.

I guess I’m still waiting it out for my Maverick…..

Lol.

For all those impatient sally's who say "I am gOiNg To GeT a SaNtA cRuZ"

Have fun with larger markups and a freaking Hyundai. The company fired their entire I.C.E. engineering team and you want to buy an I.C.E. vehicle from them?

Pretty sure none of the manufacturers will develop anymore brand new ICE from scratch. Take the Hemi it makes good power and is reasonably efficient for the size and weight vehicles its in yet was made back in 2003, and really isn't obsolete as versions of it are making over 800hp.

If I remember right, I think the Duratec 2.5 in the Maverick hybrid is even older than that at around 20 years old now, just tweaked over time.

Any recent existing designs should be easy to stretch to a 20 year shelf life with just mild tweaks, at which point government mandates will by then have likely forced everyone into EVs one way or another.

That is WILD. I've found Santa Cruz's are pretty easy to find. Most dealerships around here are marking up between 1-3K. I found one for MSRP with OTD signed pricing from the sales manager within 1 hour of calling. 500 dollar reservation, and it should be delivered in the next week or so. Still keeping my Maverick order, and will decide what do when/if it ever gets scheduled or built. But for comparable features ( a little less towing, but more creature comforts, plus a 60/40 folding back seat, and a warranty that DWARFS the Ford warranty PLUS 3 years included maintenance and oil changes) on a truck that is here...essentially now... when I need it and with transparency... It will at least give me time to drive it and then read all the longer term reviews and feedback from the people who have gotten their mavericks.... I could probably recoup my money, plus some, when it comes time if I decide to actually get the Maverick.

Add the price difference between Mav and SC and then add dealer markup on the SC, now you're too far out for most Mav buyers.

Its not overpriced, we printed 80% of all Dollars that ever existed in all of USA history in 2 years.

Real prices have not even remotely been reached in real durable goods.

Where you at? This was just a singular Texas dealership - but, the price just friggin floored me for a compact truck

Something in the hand is worth (???)! I am humming and thinking about 23 maverick phev but with expected battery constraints will probably be around til 2024-2025. So will take my XLT LUX & XLT with 4 pin hitch whenever they show up. May keep my 2012 Honda CR-V as "Family and Friends Emergency Backup" reserve.

Local dealer tried to sell me a SEL FWD ($27K MSRP) for nearly $40K out the door. I ignored their calls for a week before they got the hint.

I still cant find any Santa Cruzes here on Maui. Also can find where they sell the Hayndauis. But we almost have a dozen Mavericks on the streets.

Ford literally just developed a big block and is still sorting out a small version of it that we havent seen yet. Trucks wont be 75% EV for 20 years and no way will the 3.5 hybrid last that long and stay competitive. I actually suspect a small turbo I6 hybrid will be coming around before long. The I6s are very smooth and as EVs become popular smooth and quiet will be the name of the game. I could see a 3 or so liter turbo I6 hybrid powering f250s and the kind in 15 years. There is also some independent companies developing a sort of jet/rotary/I.C.E. that is supposedly reducing friction and vastly increasing efficiency. What if a no hybrid gas motor could push 200 plus hp and get 40mpg. That would certainly give the grid the decades it needs to catch up to EVs.

How many years do you think it takes to go from concept engine to production? Exactly, they started that years ago.

Hyundai just released their latest brand new engine design for 2022 (that 2.5T they have in the SC and many others is brand new), so they have no need for a complete redesign before ICE are emissions regulated out of existence, because as mentioned its not uncommon for engine designs to last 20 years with mild updates that don't require an entire design team to implement.

Ford has already said its entire Europe lineup will be EV by 2030, and by 2026 (in just four years) all of its passenger vehicles will be zero emissions capable (meaning at least plugin hybrid). Even sooner, by 2024, only TWO YEARS from now, their commercial offerings will all be zero emissions capable.

Gas stations aren't going away anytime soon, as every year the average age of vehicles on the road in the US increases and is currently at 12.1 years and still climbing, as people buying Ford hybrids or PHEVs in 2029 should be expected to be in use at minimum until 2041. However, brand new ICE designs just don't make a lot of sense, as you can use existing ICE designs and just electrify them, just like they did with the 2.5L Ford/Mazda engine we have in our Maverick hybrids, giving them new life.
