Good news, bad news. The salesman told me it was damaged and then sold it to someone else!

Moonroof is like 2-3 inches less headroom I believe, you may not really want that.
That’s good to know, thank you!

Let's see the buyer is 8 hours from the dealer, and the dealer conveniently failed to have pictures of the damage. A part of me says the dealer is now selling this "undamaged" vehicle with a hefty ADM. I think the dealer manager needs to have a call with the buyer, Ford regional rep, and someone from corporate to figure out a solution ASAP for this buyer.
Me too!

Perhaps your "good" salesperson could help you acquire a vehicle from another dealer?
There is such a high demand that these dealers are not sharing with other dealers and I have called numerous dealers if any lariats are in their lot for sale.

It's not that bad unless you are like 6'3" I saw a video with a tall guy talking about how it was not an issue. The only way to know is to see for yourself.

There are lots of suggestions on this thread that try to point the finger at the dealer (or even illegal aliens). Without more information, they don't seem well-founded.
  • Several say the dealer would definitely have taken pictures if the truck had really arrived damaged. I'm not so sure. I might have done so, but that doesn't mean it is the invariable practice.
  • Others suggest there really is no damage and the dealer is stealing the truck. But VINs are unique. The dealer knows Ford can track the truck to its eventual owner and the OP is unlikely to just forget about it.
  • One person even suggested that the truck was probably damaged by folks riding the rail car with it. That seems unlikely. The OP was told it arrived at the dealer with roof damage. That sounds more like something that would happen on truck transport than when someone sits in it.
In short, I wouldn't make any assumptions at this time. Better for the OP to push for the vehicle history report from the dealer or get the information it from Ford if the dealer won't cooperate.

FWIW, my guess (only a guess) is that the OP's truck's roof was badly damaged so that repair is uneconomical for the dealer. The claim that they are going to "send it back" (to Mexico?) is truly weird, but that may be some sort of misunderstanding.

Yes, I am doing my best not to jump to conclusions and will keep digging until I get a good answer or another Lariat!

If you have any close friends on a local police force, maybe have them run the VIN in a month or so and see if your vehicle is registered to someone.
Not a good idea, but I do understand the rationale. No officer should run a VIN for personal use. Big no-no. It's not "her truck." Ford and/or the dealership owns the truck until the deal goes through and it's in her possession. Also, although extremely unlikely, the VIN could come back as a stolen vehicle. If that happens, the originating agency is automatically notified and will be contacting the agency running the VIN. Obviously, that would put the officer in a very bad position of having to explain why he ran the VIN and can't produce the vehicle.

My response was originally to a comment earlier in this thread landscpdesgnr who said her DH was 6'7" so she needed the moonroof.

My DH needs the moonroof b/c he is 6'7" and needs the bit of extra head space, also needs CoPilot360 he is a shitty driver haha.

I ordered a 2000 Ford F-150 lariat from a dealer. One day I was driving pass the dealership on a vacation and saw it on the lot. Called the dealership the next monday and they said it was not in. Turns out that somebody had offered them more money and they sold it to him and reordered my pickup. it does happen.

OP, I'm SO sorry. Here's a new $100k TRX that was backed off of the transporter w/o properly adjusting the top ramp after his 5-month wait. Crushed the roof and sunroof........ I hope your dealer can somehow make this right for you.... Unfortunately this happens.......
