Good news, bad news. The salesman told me it was damaged and then sold it to someone else!

So last night I get a call from someone at the dealership thanking me for my business. I replied I hadn’t completed a transaction there yet and was still waiting to hear about my truck delivery. He said it would be arriving at the dealer today, Wednesday, and my salesman would be giving me a call. I thanked him, hung up and started packing for my 8 hour road trip. I was so excited I got up at 3 AM and left by 4:30 AM. As I was driving through Jacksonville my salesman called and I was so excited! He said “I have some good news and some news that might make you a little upset.“ Then he said the truck arrived but it had been damaged on the transport truck and the roof was so damaged they had to return it! I was stunned and couldn’t say anything for a minute or two and then I just blurted out that I was not a little upset, I was a lot upset! He apologized and said they would give me highest priority for another Lariat that was unclaimed. I’m afraid that did not make me feel any better! Back to the waiting game
Update 2/3/22 - .Anyone who knows me knows I always say “everything happens for a reason!” This morning I got a call from my favorite salesman, Patrick, at my local dealer, Bozard Ford, telling me his customer who ordered a CG first edition Lariat got tired of waiting and turned it and bought a Mercedes! I’m getting dressed and on my way to get my new Maverick!!! Delivered 2/2/22, the Lunar year of the Tiger and my Lunar birth year! Ran into a snag with the temporary Fordpass Visa card so couldn’t take delivery today

Since this thread has gotten so long I’m adding this synopsis for those who want the Cliff notes (that sure dates me !)
Update 2/4 - picked up my Carbonized Grey First Edition Lariat Chariot and love it! Received an email from Gary Yeoman’s asking how I liked my new vehicle that I took delivery of on 2/1? @Rob Cactus Gray was kind enough to run a Carfax inquiry on the VIN and it says the truck was titled to the new owner on 2/1!
2/5 - got an email from Ford asking about my experience so I told them!

Thanks, I still have tears in my eyes The salesman told me this is the second hybrid in two weeks that came in so damaged that they had to be returned!

First of all...I'm so sorry. Second....get pics from the dealer including the correct vin. The fact he didn't send pics first thing is already a huge red flag for me.

If and when I receive confirmation my truck is in transit, and because my dealer is 10 minutes away, I'll attempt to be at the dealership before the Maverick arrives to make sure there's no funny business

I am so fed up waiting, I know others have much longer waits but we are 2 adults w 1 car for 6+ mo, I have been calling dealers all over FL. Mullinax Apopka & Peacock Winter Park have carriers arriving next week. Depending where you are maybe start calling around to find avail trucks?

I once ordered a decked out ranger in 1994 and after I got the call the truck was in, I went right to the dealership to pick it up and the salesman couldn't find it. Turned out another salesman was in the process of selling it to another customer!!

I'm sorry about what happened. And it turns out it's not just you.

Yesterday, I visited with the owner of "my" dealership. She said that due to transport shortages they are using companies that they wouldn't normally use and are having much more damage than they usually do.

Most of the articles I see on truck driver shortages say that there are plenty of people who have the training to take these jobs. But many find out when they get into it that the pay and working conditions aren't what they expected. So they go and find better jobs elsewhere.

I can't really fault someone who leaves for a better job. Who wouldn't do that?

But it's putting a big crimp in the supply pipeline for us consumers.

Yes, I have been doing that but so far nothing other than this one that is now being returned. The worst part is I turnEd down one because it did not have cruise control

I hate to say that I believe the salesman and maybe I shouldn’t.

I think that your salesman should be able to send you a copy of the vehicle history report for your VIN showing the shipping, the arrival, and the return.

I say "I think" because I've never seen a report for a vehicle in that situation. But they track all the other movements so I'm assuming they track returns.
