The escape forums general consensus is that this is normal for Turbo GDI motors from ford. Hate to bother you but can you offer any input @FORD BOSS ME ?

Different mufflers have them in different places, some have the hole in the bottom panel, some right on the side where the muffler shell is crimped close. Who knows? Could be a supplier issue? Could be a variance between Ecoboost and Hybrid exhausts? I'm willing to bet it's there, maybe just not in the same spot? Maybe due to supply chain issues there are variances in where they're sourcing the muffler itself from when fabricating the Maverick's system (Whoever the supplier is).
Good call. TBH I did not know this was the norm. We've all seen vehicles at times just dump a bunch of water build up out of the exhaust. Is that likely due to the hole being placed in a non-optimal place? (Serious question)

It has 2 or more wheels and an engine!

I'd be much more concerned if my muffler didn't have this drain hole because water can accumulate inside and cause premature rust from the inside out.
I have never owned a car that had a drain hole in the exhaust( And I have had many but never a ford)

My current daily driver is about to reach 50k of hard MN winter miles and not even a speck of rust and no hole in the exhaust and yes it is a turbo(twin) vehicle.

Man, that tech must have used a really long drill bit when he was cleaning up that SIBL. 😂😂

My former 2012 CRV didnt have a hole for the muffler either yet the muffler was right before the exhaust tip. Maybe its because the exhaust pipe goes around and above the rear diff?

What do you want me to say? You think I'm making this up or something? Maybe some manufacturers decided not to do it? I'm guessing more expensive vehicles probably use better quality stainless steel since there are different grades. I'm sure they don't need to worry as much about evacuating moisture from the muffler. I'm going to guess the muffler on this truck is made from pretty low quality steel and is much more prone to rusting. Does the pinhole really hurt anything? Probably not. I have no clue, I'm not an automotive engineer, I've just worked on enough of my own vehicles and lived on the Canadian border long enough to have replaced enough exhaust systems to know that it's a common practice.

I’ll check tomorrow to see if I can find a hole in a different location on the exhaust. I only checked the same area as depicted in the pictures from OP. Will be interested to see what others may report on this. I have 2.0 EB AWD 4K.

I stand corrected .... It was dark in my garage last night and I should have known that the iPhone flashlight was insufficient. I checked again today with garage door open and daylight shining in and confirmed I do have a small weep hole in the muffler.

Did you have carbon buildup like my photo? If this is normal then im probably just gonna cancel my appointment.

Hi! I picked up my truck last Saturday and so far its been a blast. We just did an 870 mile road trip from Maine to Philadelphia this past weekend. This morning starting my Maverick I noticed exhaust coming from the muffler with what looks like a punch through hole. I think it might of been done at the factory with how clean it looks, like a precision cut. I have an appointment friday to get it looked at and probably replaced with the warranty. So far I have no exhaust smell in the cabin, smell of something time to time I think is break in Has anyone else had this issue? I’ve attached some photos and a video. My Maverick has 1100 miles.

I did not have carbon buildup like your photo. That is the one thing I thought could be concerning in your case. I don’t know if that would be considered to be normal. See picture below that I just took showing no carbon on mine.

Hmm interesting, Ill bring it in regardless then and have them take a look. Didn't look at it today but I was on the road for four hours and didn't smell any exhaust.

Carbon is normal for just about any exhaust. Look at any car with chrome tail finishers that hasn't been cleaned recently and you will see a ton of black carbon on the edges of the chrome finishers. Especially living in Maine where it probably spends a lot of time running rich on startup to preheat the catalytic converter you're putting more carbon and water as a byproduct through your exhaust system. Not saying you shouldn't have it checked for your peace of mind but just trying to ease your mind that there's a 99% chance that nothing is wrong with your Maverick
