I almost want to schedule an appointment with that dealer, act like a super serious interested buyer, take it on a 15 mile test drive, say I'm hungry and try to get a free lunch out of them, and then when it comes down to the last minute, pull out a stack of monopoly money and hand it to the salesman.

Or "accidentally" crash it on the test drive.

Good for that dealership. Make as much money as the market will allow. They aren't forcing anyone to pay for that vehicle. Not a single person.

As soon as the market is back to normal and they can't do this kind of stuff they will come back to being competitive and nobody will remember this event.

If you are against ADM's, you also shouldn't sell your used car for the inflated values out there right now.
Using your logic, you would be ok with milk being $25/gallon or gas being $50/gallon or eggs being $10/dozen or your electric bill being $1000/month in the middle of winter even though the power goes out because of a tiny ice storm. 😂 Texans.

The lab leak theory has not held up to scientific scrutiny, and (most) dealers are scum. And yet here you are. 🙄

You make no sense. None of what you suggested has ever happened. Pricing was competitive prior to inflation running crazy.

As to the ice, it wasn't tiny and there is absolutely no way a warm weather state can be prepared for such an event.

Just like when Chicago gets 99 degree, 90% humidity and there aren't enough AC units.

Some times bad things happen. It's life.

Man did you hit the nail on the head. I’m a Ford salesman and not a day goes by that someone doesn’t come in wanting to sell or trade their vehicle for as much or more than they paid for it two or three years ago. 90% are personally offended when I explain that it’s not realistic. “but Kelly blue book told me so!” They say. We sell at msrp on orders and a few thousand over if we get a stock unit that’s in high demand. Most Every other business on earth sets their own prices, but car dealers must be told by their suppliers or they’re crooks?
P.S. 15k is a lot 😂

Actually, many countries regulate the prices for certain goods. And it even happens in the United States. In most States utilities such as gas and electric are regulated as is interstate trucking All states, most counties and cities have rules, regulations and ordinances about price gouging. There are two discussions occurring. One is about the dealer who jumps through the hoops and risks the money to have floor stock (inventory) who takes advantage of the supply and demand and adds ADM. People are seeing the sticker with the ADM on it and complaining. No one is forcing these people to buy the truck from that dealer. Then there are dealers trying to add ADM when they've done nothing more than facilitate the paperwork on the order from Ford. There's an offshoot of those dealers who do this intentionally to try to get people to walk away from their order so the dealer can basically steal that order and put it out on the floor at no risk. As a capitalist and a free market economy type person I understand that's the way the game's played and I choose not to support dealers who try to screw people over. The dealers trying to screw people over by stealing orders, or doing a shakedown, they need to be punished. Note I said try to screw people over, I did not say make a reasonable profit. I'm all for company making reasonable earned profits. The drum I'm beating is about the dealers who do nothing more than the paperwork where the vehicle is basically ordered online through Ford. You show up with the dealer to sign a couple pieces of paper and then wait the 12 to 15 years to get your Maverick built. The dealer has done nothing other than basic paperwork and they'll still make a profit facilitating the paperwork. Even the dealers selling at a discount below MSRP and there's a couple that are well known, they're still making a profit. But to order a vehicle through Ford and be required to go to the dealership to finalize the paperwork and waiting forever to finally have the vehicle built and as soon as it arrives the dealer trying to attach an ADM on it is complete BS. That is not fair profit that is nothing but out and out trying to screw people over and take an unfair advantage of a situation. It's basically a shakedown. Again, when the dealer is willing to put out their own money take the risk and floor product, put cars on the lot, they certainly should be allowed to charge whatever they can get the market to bear. It may be short-term gains for long-term grief as in people are getting tired of the dealer system, it is still their right as a business to set prices as they wish. However, when the dealer takes no risk and they've done nothing but the paperwork required to facilitate the order, attempting to add ADM is BS and a shakedown.

You really shouldn't take this personally, friend.

Just visited my dealership to ask why my build date moved out a month (June order now Feb build don't expect it before April) they had an order for a loaded Ecoboost that the guy who ordered it said he doesn't want it. Dealership sold it with a $10,000 mark up to the next guy, even though it is still sitting there waiting for a new gas tank. Told him the mark up was because he was jumping the line of other orders, the guy didn't blink at $41,000. This in not Cali but NC.

You can buy from any dealer in the country. There is no monopoly because one dealer is greedy. Buy anywhere you find a good deal and use the extra money to fly one way to pick it up and drive it home.
Yeah, as much as I dislike the tactic, there are other dealers you can choose. I purchased from a dealer in Altamonte Springs, over 2 hours away because of markups. I have a signed agreement for MSRP from where I am purchasing because my local dealer wouldn't commit to this. If you really want it, you can find a more reputable dealer to buy from if you are willing to look and travel a little. Just my two cents worth.

Short-Redmond Ford contacted me back - yup they have one in stock. XL model - plain Jane - only 10K over MSRP plus tax title, dealer fees- Tried to tell me what a great deal it was and that they were the only dealer in 500 miles that had a hybrid for sale - blah blah blah. I asked him what folks were going to do when production catches up and they are 10K upside down and he said oh it wont - Ford is just letting the production trickle out to prevent that . He said hey because it is new you get a Ford lifetime powertrain warranty ... I said I thought it was 60K warranty - he said oh no Ford is doing a lifetime. I said well most Id pay over is 2K and he laughed and said Carvana would give him more than that . At that point I had to say well sorry I wasted your time thanks for the call. Jeez hoping my August order gets scheduled soon and yes talking to some car dealers DOES make you feel like you need to take a shower to get their dishonest funk off of you. LOL

I paid a little over $3k ADM and didnt blink an eye. I wanted and NEEDED a new vehicle now, and wasnt going to wait literally a year for Ford to build me a Hybrid. And honestly there was no other new car on the market that met my requirements except maybes the Santa Cruz, which is an ugly abomination.
