Did Ford "soften" the OEM Falken Wildpeak AT3W for the Maverick?

You guys have it all wrong, they are not "watered down", all 235 width falken at3ws come like that even off the shelf. The 245 width has the meaty chunky sidewalls.

Read the first review. Thats how the 235 gets an H rating for speed but the 245 gets a T.

I am looking at FALKEN WILDPEAK AT TRAIL
Supposedly made for unibody vehicles. Not as aggressive but looks like a decent all around tire.

On the build and price when you build an FX4 Lariat it leaves the 225 size tire on, BUT if you add the 235 it DOES NOT change the wheel (fx4 17” black wheel) AND it doesn’t change price to add the 235. It also won’t allow you change back to the 225 once you click the 235.


Do you get the Pirelli’s or the Wildpeak on the FX4. I’ve seen ppl post XLT Fx4 packages with Pirellis as well which adds to the confusion. Do the FX4 tires change with trim level. Sorry if it’s been answered before. Not a huge deal, I just wanted to see if y’all knew.

I've noticed that as well. I really wanted the Wildpeak tires with the FX4 black wheels, but it seems the only way to get this combo is with the First Ed package. Choosing the Wildpeak on a FX4 requires a wheel "upgrade" to the ones shown in the post above by @Nw_adventure

If you get the Unique Painted 17" wheels, it comes with the 225 Pirelli Scorpion tires. The only way to get the Falken Wildpeak tires is to either select the Aluminum Alloy wheels (at a price increase) or to have a First Edition.

The Build and Price used to allow you to misconfigure and add the Falken to the build with the Black 17s, but the dealers could not order it that way. Because of this, I opted for the wheels over the tires and have Wildpeaks waiting for me at Discount Tire as soon as I pick up my Maverick this week. They recommended personally selling the Pirellis since they could only offer about $50 per tire with their buy back program.

5 (replacing spare as well) of the 235 Wildpeaks came out to right under $1000 with my discounts. Much cheaper than having to buy a set of decent wheels I would like.

Confirming what's already been said on this thread, but I was looking through the specs on Falken's website and noticed that in the same, 235/65R17 size, the Wildpeaks AT3W actually weights about 5 pounds less per tire than the A/T Trail.

Falken's response was that "The AT3W in this size [235/65/17] is a OE option tire on some of the new Ford Vehicles. As such, it is not the full on, off the shelf Wildpeak AT3W that should weigh more than the AT Trail due to it's position as a light truck tire in comparison to the cross over tire of the AT Trail"

So in other words, Falken watered down the Wildpeak AT3W in that specific size... regardless of whether it comes as OE, or off the shelf. Likely due to a desire to lighten the tire so the EPA ratings with the Wildpeak matched the ratings with the Pirelli ATR.

For what it's worth, I want a triple peak rated tire so I'm planning on swapping out the Pirelli ATR's for the Wildpeak AT Trails, if and when I ever receive my truck!

For what it's worth, fellas, I did a lot of research before replacing the tires on my full-sized Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. I replaced the OEM BF Goodrich WR-A's (which were utter trash from Day 1) with the Cooper AT-3's and it was like a different truck. They are quieter (basically no road noise, in my experience), have better traction, and are wearing incredibly well.

I plan to upgrade the tires once I get my Maverick, and while I really like the look of the KO2's and some other options, I'm almost hesitant to get any other tire due to the fantastic experience I've had with these. For anyone wondering about these Cooper AT-3's, I, quite simply, cannot recommend them enough.

They are nice tires. They seem pretty much perfect for the mav since they are a better road tire than the at3w's. They look pretty good, too.

Those look great. I'm going to do the same (with the Wildpeak AT Trail), just trying to decide whether to go 235 or 245.
