So my GF is on her second tank, and is only getting 36'ish MPG. Granted, she had been driving it in the "Normal" mode. I just switched that to ECO, but is that likely to help to any noticeable degree ?
This has been a pretty standard mix of freeway / city driving.
Any suggestions on how to get closer to 40 mpg's ???

How does she brake? I see a huge difference in the energy capture if I gradually brake.

Lighten application of the go pedal. Delay application of the whoa pedal.

Keep in mind that she must switch it to ECO mode each time. It always reverts back to normal upon startup.

Kind of lame that you can't set it and forget it.... But she always used her E brake, which is right next to it, so she said she will just get in the habit...

Well, typically harder than me.... But I've been with her in the Maverick (right now in fact) and she's actually babying it.
That said,I read somewhere else, that the Maverick actually gets better mileage with slightly harder braking.... Or should say, it recaptures mare brake energy with moderate braking, vs, really gradual braking....

I've heard the opposite with the Maverick.... but to answer your question, she's been driving it pretty lightly... brakes and gas.

Not my experience so far. Hard braking shows usually 60% energy capture. Gradual gets me 90-100.

In the 2020 Escape Hybrid, I don't see any difference in gas mileage, NORMAL vs ECO modes.

I do see about 2x regen braking in ECO mode, and cruise control is far more enjoyable without the strong engine surges. I use it whenever I remember it.

First off ECO mode needs to be enabled every time the Maverick is started as the Drive Mode always defaults to Normal.

The big plus for ECO mode is when you are stopping as it doubles the regeneration power when slowing down and stopping. Having ECO Mode on and stopping you should get a 100% Braking Report on every stop. Also don't stomp on the brakes or push hard as both will put the gauge on the left to the white line where the actual brakes are applied and you lose power going back into the HV battery.

Also on starts don't stomp on the accelerator but press to keep the left gauge in the 0-20% range until up to speed then briefly take the pressure off the accelerator then re-apply to keep a steady speed. Doing this gets the electric motor involved in moving the truck and will stop the ICE motor.

As others here state use ECO mode on every drive and slow but steady acceleration instead of aggressive acceleration and braking while staying the the green range on the left power meter will give you great MPGs.

My experience with my current hybrid Toyota (and the one before) is that my mpg improved over time. Maybe it's that I ran the car more while I was figuring stuff out in the driveway, or maybe it's the break in period, or maybe it's just an unsolved mystery, but my gas mileage improved over time.

The only time I've ever used ECO mode was when I first bought the car and then for a brief period this past summer when there was a gas shortage. The difference in acceleration was noticeable, and the difference in MPG was negligible. The Maverick might be different though.

I AM surprised by the comments saying that ECO has to be set on the Maverick each time we drive. On my current car, it's not that way. The default is whatever I set it to be until I change it to something else.

Yea, I didn't even think about the break in period. But tea a brand new "tight motor" is going to use more juice to turn....
As for ECO having to be turned on every time you drive it, that's just dumb. My Prius sure doesn't need to be set every time you drive it...

With a MIX of Hwy/city, the avg is 37....so she is pretty much on target....to be an OVERACHIEVER...you have to work at it....it will happen, IF you drive slow, brake easy, take off easy, etc... below is my most recent 137 miles, about 60 percent at 60MPH, rest city.
