I decided to hit gas station with still 20 miles to go on the gauge, I figured 20 miles is at least half a gallon plus whatever contingency is built into those things.

However I was very surprised to find I'm within drops of an empty tank (full capacity is 13.8). Did anyone else have similar experience? or am I short changed by the gas station? It's a very big major brand gas station off the highway.

First off OUCH $4.39 per gallon.

Question: Did you follow the fill-up procedure and stop filling when the pump shut off the first time?

Never overfilled / double clicked the handle on any car I've ever owned.

That means the tanks are actually bigger than advertised 13.8. I wonder what the actual size is.

$62.19 - 13.822 Gallons

Looks like the MPG readings from the display are nearly spot on.

602.3 / 13.822 = 43.6 MPG

And also OUCH $4.499 per gallon

I never let my tank get below a quarter tank.
I also usually fill-up when about 1/5 is left in the tank but I will make an exception on my first fill-up as I want to see what actual range I will get on my hybrid along with determining amount to fill-up the tank. I also will use actual miles / gallons to determine how accurate MPG shown on display is.

As a fellow Californian, I will take 500+ miles for 60 bucks. My 2011 Soul cost around $50 to fill and got half of what my Mav should get. I have a little more than a half tank left from when I got it from the dealer and drove 240 miles so far. If you are in the South Bay go to Ciceros. It’s the best!

Please stop double clicking. There's a reason why the pump shut-off exists.

Did you misread the post?

He actually stated that he never double clicked the handle on any car I've ever owned.

All good guys. I'm just curious how big the tanks actually are. Maybe it's identical to eb 16.5 and ford just tweaked the number in computer to fool us all 😂

There's no reason to doubt Ford's 13.8 claim. Sometimes, fuel dispensers are either not correctly calibrated (this is closely monitored but happens) and other times the dispenser doesn't automatically shutoff until it has filled up the filler neck, technically overfilling.

Interesting. I have always ran cars I have owned to "e" mark or 0 miles just to see how much gas I had left in an emergency situation. There's always been a gallon plus left. Its interesting that 20 miles might actually mean 20 miles..

With two reports of fill ups at 13.8 (one above) this makes me think that the report tank size is wrong. Only one way to know for sure, who's going to run to empty!

First, congrats on your new Hybrid Maverick!

The real question many will wonder, what is your MPG? While we like to see what the info screen says, we (I) am more interested in what real calculated MPGs are (ie miles driven divided by those 13.74 gallons)?

Have a great New Year!
