Does Maverick remind anyone else of Scion?

I wish Ford adopted The GM Saturn Model. You went to the dealership - here it is for example - The new Maverick Hybrid. Awesome what is the price ? Well it is the price on the sticker there. Oh are you adding " limited availability" of 5000 to the price ? No sir, it is the price on the sticker. Oh - Ok then can I get 3% off if I buy from a "volume dealer" ? No sir - it is the price on the sticker. Oh Ok - can I order multiple trucks from multiple dealers to see which one comes in first ? No sir no matter which dealer you order from it is - first come first serve - the oldest order gets produced first because these are not stock vehicles. Oh Ok so what is your "allocation " - We dont have any mumbo jumbo like that , you order a vehicle, you pay the price on the MSRP and we dont try and hose you. Wouldn't that be super ?

How’d that model work for GM and the longevity of the Saturn brand.

Actually it worked fantastic. The brand loyalty was through the roof and they actually had over 40,000 people that bought a vehicle come to a homecoming celebration in Spring Hill Tennessee near where I live. The whole concept was killed because GM didn't want to change.

Yeah, you likely know more about Saturn automobiles than I so I won’t argue things I don’t know. However, brand loyalty can be positive and it still be a stinking business. GM trimmed them when they were in trouble for a reason.

And if the set, no-haggle price was so wildly popular it would be implemented far more than it currently is.

I don't know which Honda Element you rode in but the one I owned had tons of space inside. I could walk between the front seats to the back. The back seats had tons of leg room, and could be folded flat and swung up to the sides, creating a massive open space on the back. I carried full size refrigerators in it, whole kitchens from IKEA in it. It was plenty large inside

I rode in the 1 that was cramped and uncomfortable inside for a 60+ year old with bad back and full of Arthritis I take it you haven't sat in or driven a Maverick? That's the beauty of the Maverick, you have a comfortable SUV like cabin for 5 and a bed to hold and carry larger objects like you listed- and no flipping or folding inside required

Stealerships hated the Saturn business model, and the old guard at GM executed the brand after Roger Smith retired. No new products, no brand loyalty to remain.

Hmm, having owned an Element, I really don't think that it was small inside compared to my Maverick. Lots of headroom and legroom in the front and back. I actually think that the Element's front seats were more comfortable (back seats not so much, although they did have lots of legroom). The back seats were higher than the front seats, which gave the passengers a nice view out the front, which Honda called "stadium seating." The front and back seats could be folded in such a way to make the whole inside a sleepable bed. The back seats could also be folded up on the sides, or removed completely, to make a large van-like area that could hold a LOT of volume. I could carry long objects between the front seats. The suicide doors were kind of love/hate, but they did make it really easy to load stuff. The tailgate was nice for hanging out and enjoying sunsets. In most respects, it was more versatile than pretty much any other vehicle out there, especially for the size and price. My only complaints were that it had a wimpy weight limit, and the ground clearance was pretty terrible.

OK, I just made the Element sound better than the Maverick. I'll probably be skinned alive for my sin. Had Honda brought back the Element with a hybrid or PHEV drivetrain, and a little more clearance, I would have bought it over the Maverick. Heresy, I realize. But the Element really was an amazing vehicle for someone like me who likes to ride bikes, paddle canoes & kayaks, work on my house, haul a small sailboat, and take long road trips.

All of that said, I REALLY like my Maverick. Reminds me of a larger and more comfortable version of my old '89 Toyota pickup--which was the very definition of a (fun)ctional vehicle!

pretty much sounds like my 2007 Pontiac Vibe. LOL. The Maverick carries everything you guys are talking about and doesn't compromise cabin room doing it. I'm way past the days of making my car sleepable or any other cramped quarters or tent camping, etc. I have a small toybox that carries a couple bikes and has bathroom, kitchenette, good heater, A/C, king size bed and more that can be easily pulled by my Grand Cherokee or the Maverick. Have an RV for the long trips. I'm curious to see a comparison of size specs between Maverick and that Element- thinking you guys have some fond memories clouding your thinking here

What sank Saturn was diluting the brand with multi badged GM offerings infiltrating into Saturn instead of leaving it a seperate company inside of GM. GM created Saturn, then destroyed it themselves from the inside out. GM did the same thing with SAAB automobiles. Thank God that Scania trucks, and SAAB aerospace were not part of that deal, or GM woulda done something stupid and killed those too. They killed SAAB with typical GM badge engineering. Great job GM.
