Need to replace 2011 Ranger asap - died of undercarriage corrosion and I learned it was not worth attempting to fix while out of town). Would buy another Ranger if it was still a small truck.

Going with a Maverick, but a little concerned about snow, hill I live on, unpaved part of property I drive on (old dirt road with some boulders that stick up and generally uneven).

Have max $28000 to spend.
Thinking I should look for XLT AWD ecoboost with FX4 package & ideally the 4K tow package (future thinking).

Is it worth it to buy a 2024 with 59k miles if I get CPO certified?

is a Tremor with higher mileage better than a regular XLT?

I hate the vinyl seats, but if it has everything else, worth it?

new to forum. Thanks for thoughts.

Hello and welcome to MTC. Sorry to read about your old Ranger, it happens nothing last forever. Before taking delivery I went with Krown rust proofing, for the reason you posted about your Ranger.

I went with the XLT, FX4, 4k tow, opt P235 Wildpeak tires, to increase ground clearance and more aggressive tread. I would have liked the advanced AWD, increased approach angle. I just couldn't do the 2000lb limited towing owning 5 trailers and needing to tow over that 2000 lbs for various reasons. Also back then it also had 5mpg per hwy less fuel economy. Most my driving is 55mpg 2 lane highway. Getting higher than expected in summer 30 to 33 and about 27 to 29 winter and 21 when towing approximately

At the time 2024 you could get the tremor with cloth seats. I'm with you that's another want or needing. Grew up with vinyl and don't like the cold in the winter, hot in the summer and no able to breathe. Besides in off road conditions I don't want to be sliding all over the place, when I'm having difficulty enough steering through the terrain.

If you don't tow the tremor maybe an option if you can find a used one with cloth seats. I opted which I explained puts me just under 9 inch ground clearance the tremor 9.4 inches. So far I haven't had an issue. I've been and still impressed with it's versatility

Best of luck on what you decide. I removed all to well trying to decide what I needed and wanted and would use on a daily driver vs just a few times in its lifetime.

You know it's going to be more than 28,000 especially with taxes, still I would price out a new Maverick. The difference maybe doable and offer maybe better financing and warranty. Check out Fords new warranty on Maverick and powertrain warranty. The difference in cost is another consideration. Good luck and again welcome to MTC

The FWD Mav does excellent in even deep snow.

The AWD Mav is essentially FWD for 99% of your winter driving, and only switches to AWD when you are slipping. For the extra cost and complexity, its not worth it. Just get a spare set of steelies and proper ice/snow tires and FWD has better real traction than AWD without.

The Hybrid Mav applies torque more gently than the EcoBoost, and so may be the better bet in snow, and never mind getting almost double the fuel mileage unless you have a very heavy foot or like very high speeds.

Get a 22-24 model. For 25-26 Ford removed quite a few niceties to reduce costs while they hiked the price substantially. Just make sure that all the recalls and TSBs have been done, as more than a few partially fix 12V charging issues.

My 2025 AWD XLT with the 2.0 EB was only $31,510.00 brand new IMO If I were You, I would spend the extra money and buy new for the Warranty and not buy used!!
