Tailgate assist is essential.
Nice to have maybe, but not really on my list as essential. I tried the stuby but i actually use the radio and reception was much poorer overall.

Have to remove the headliner to get at that screw.
Nope. Just screw’s off. Unless your pulling the fin too, but that’s not what we are talking about.

Took the Stubby off my Focus (put it on years ago) and transferred it to my Maverick. Perfect fit, and radio reception is as good as the Factory installed antenna.

Switched to the Stubby strictly for cosmetic reasons. I do not listen to AM/FM but I do keep the original antennae in the bottom of the glove box for the time that I have to or want to listen to AM in the future.

I got one myself but it got rusted in a few weeks so I ditched it

I installed the stubby jr. antenna, purely for aesthetics, as others have done. Can't comment on functionality since I use Sirius/XM 99% of the time, or stream through CarPlay.
You've clearly been spying on me. I do exactly the same. I will say that here in Philly, we have one of those super-powerful AM stations, KYW Newsradio, and the signal is crystal clear (I'm sure it's the station and not the Stubby Jr.!).

Had a stubby antenna installed for a few weeks but went back to the OEM one. The radio reception (FM) was compromised and did not want to deal with that.

I picked up a couple of replacement antennas from Amazon. We're on the fringe of reception for one of the last, great, independent, all music FM radio stations (WEVL 89/9 FM - google it, they stream too). I was hoping that a different, slightly larger antenna would reduce the noise and flutter. The 2 I tried worked no better than stock, or were slightly worse, and they weren't even stubby.

I say don't' waste your time, but if you do want to try, just buy PRIME and figure you'll return it.

Because of the big block they screw into, if I take a step back they just don’t look right even on a small Maverick.
Might be just as happy with a TV antenna look or aluminum foil :D. If there was no big black box and the stubby screwed into the small nub on a roof or fender like the old days, then I would consider it.

Got the CravenSpeed Stubby Jr antennae for my Mav. FM reception seems to be the about same. If HD reception good, it has picked up as good as OEM. Sure, being short, reception will probably not be as effective as the OEM... but so far IMO, vary negligable.

Tested in both Springfield and KC MO areas. Picks up all HD in KCMO, and in surrounding areas. In Springfield, HD sucks no matter what is used, it does pick up normal FM fine. Like shorter length - makes my Mav look less like a remote control hobby toy... 🙃

I broke my original 6” antenna when a freak wind lifted my soft bed cover onto the roof while loading the bed. It looked like a bad case of Peyronie’s disease 🤨. I decided to replace it with a 2” stubby. I live in the suburbs and drive good distances at times (over 200 miles), usually only need to switch FM stations 2 or 3 times. Now I can’t go more than thirty miles without totally loosing reception. Usually only ten miles and it starts getting sketchy, especially under overpasses. I keep the broken 6” antenna in the glove box so when I go camping I can put it back in because it still works, but makes me cringe when I look at it.
