Wacko fuel gauge and DTE

2024 Lariet Hybrid- filled up tank as usual on a trip and ready data. After about 75 miles noticed fuel gauge and distance too empty had not changed at all. Stopped for a drink, thinking it might fix itself by restarting vehicle. No luck. After about 145 miles I noticed the DTE finally dropped by about 40 miles but gauge still showing full. 264 miles and just now gauge shows 3/4 full. I guess my next step is fill up and reset data. After that, to to dealer.

On your previous tank right before this, did you get lower gas mileage than normal (whether through hauling, towing, idling, etc)? The behavior you describe here sounds typical of when you have a lower mileage tank, then on the next tank you get back to normal/higher mileage driving. If this is the case, then there is no issue present.

Quirky would be the best description of the fuel gauge. DTE does indeed base itself off of the mileage from the previous fill up.

Infuriating in some ways, but normal.

100%. Honestly, the DTE value really isn't too accurate until about a quarter tank of fuel is left.

That is pretty much the milage and gage reading on my 24 lariat eb. But dte is always right. I checked 25 miles past zero is the end . Also my indicated mpg is off average of 1 mpg from actual.

Do you have a smaller tire than it came with on the truck? If you have smaller tires the miles MTE is basically meaningless... I know... Have 17's on my 2024 Ecoboost as snows and when it gets down to where it should tell you you have 50 miles to empty (it does not do it till around 40 miles when I have the smaller tires on) the tank is showing over a quarter of a tank left. With the regular tires it reverts to 50 miles and the numbers seem rational. Though if you have just done a very high mile run on the prior tank the next tank will use that MPG to figure the MTE. Case in point... Just did a one day run from Western SC to central MA (950+ miles). Miles on 1st tank was 481.3 with truck calc of 31.8 (I calc 30.99). MTE when I filled up was 569... Filled up again when I got home, 474 miles and still had 89 miles to empty. Put in 14.26 gal, so that MTE number was not right... though my calc of 30.99 MPG could have done 60+. lol

Probably filled up unlevel and got more in tank - closer to the 16.5 possible.

Doesn't take much tilt down on passenger side for that effect, it's a wide tank.
Explains the non-moving fuel gage for awhile.

The DTE is based on a chunk of prior miles running average - you can see as you drive say with high MPG and watch prior data with low MPG fall off - DTE can jump decently.

Noticed this many times the week or two after a long highway trip with decent but not EV miles.
No fillup was done after the trip, has nothing to do with that.
But those fall off, and the DTE increases based on my now recent better city miles.

I've watched it happen a few times when the trip starts as the DTE slowly decreases faster than the MPG so far would indicate.
Very annoying effect if trying to find that 1st cheaper gas station near the end of the 1st trip tank.
Why I just look on the route now ahead of time, calculate distance myself.
