I've had this now since October and really like the fit and looks. It also has held out rain good. Except with the power car wash does get a small amount of water in, but nothing to worry about. My main issue is driving at highway speeds and especially with a 20-25mph wind this cover will flop up and down and make a lot of noise you can hear in cabin. It was so bad yesterday, and it was a breezy day, that I just pulled over and rolled it up. I do not think air is getting under it, just the way it blows across it?? Was just curious if anyone else has experienced this as well. The cover is tight as a drum, maybe why it sounds like it :)

My generic soft rollup does the same thing sometimes. I'm usually alone, so I turn up the radio volume until it stops.

never owned a soft top version but i've seen them and convertible tops bubble up and flapping going down the road.

Based on a google search......

AI Overview

Yes, it is very common for soft-top pickup bed covers to flap, bubble, or vibrate in the wind, especially at highway speeds. This is primarily caused by air pressure changes lifting the fabric, and it is frequently due to low tension, incorrect installation, or worn-out materials.
Key details regarding soft top bed cover flapping:
  • Normal Behavior: Mild, high-speed movement or "ballooning" is generally considered normal for soft, non-rigid tonneau covers.
  • Causes of Excessive Flapping:
    • Improper Tension: The cover is not adjusted tight enough.
    • Improper Installation: The velcro is not secured correctly, or the rear clips are not engaged.
    • Airflow Physics: Air flowing over the cabin creates a low-pressure zone that can lift the cover.
  • Solutions:
    • Re-tensioning: Most soft covers have adjustable tensioners to remove slack.
    • Check Clamps and Velcro: Ensure all seals are tight and Velcro is clean.
    • Tailgate Alignment: Minor gaps in the tailgate area can create drag and pressure that causes the cover to lift.

Yep, I am thinking this is the culprit:
  • Airflow Physics: Air flowing over the cabin creates a low-pressure zone that can lift the cover.
I had the same brand for years on my 1998 F150 and it never flapped or made noise. So, maybe I need an air spoiler. Thanks for the input!

Have you tried using the tension adjustment screws?

Here's the owners manual for the Truxport:

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.../pdf/1116032-truxport-manual._V217528616_.pdf

Page 4 shows how to adjust the tension. I'm not saying it will eliminate the issue completely, but it should help a good deal.

For what it's worth I have a Truxedo LoPro and the adjustment process is similar albeit with the screws placed up by the cab. It DOES make a difference on mine.

Mine bounces a bit at speed. I am going to add some pipe insulation to the bars to increase their diameter which will pull the vinyl more taut. I also pull the velcro tight on both sides.

I am going to have to redo my rails though as I didn't place them quite far enough towards the cab. I am going to seal up the side bed rail gaps at the same time.

yes, when I installed it I did read the instructions, mine is tight as a drum. It also is sealed correctly. It's just the way the Maverick is moving the air over the cover. I would not recommend the soft cover to people shopping for a tonneau cover on the Maverick.

Yep, I didn't like the flapping so returned my soft roll up and got the hard roll up.

Well, if it's coming from AI it must be true!

I have the ford branded version and although I can see some vibration in the rear view I have never noticed it making noise. I do however usually have some music going so maybe that combined with my 70+ year old ear drums has kept it from becoming a nuisance.

Just a little update here. I went to the hardware store and bought (2) 3/4 condenser pipe foam covers. They are pre-split and were 5'0 long. I cut them down to the fill length of the tonneau bar supports. I just slipped them over the tubes and nothing else needed. This made a huge difference in the fluttering and noise. Cost me another $6 for the foam covers, cheap fix. BTW the foam wall thickness is about 7/16" and you really cannot not see them. If you get just the right angle you can see a small deflection right at the edge where the foam starts.

It is no different than an airplane wing with positive and negative pressures - aka Lift. See if some body has a cross member you can put in the middle to stop the cavitation. I had a soft top a long time ago on a short bed RAM Miser that did the same thing. PVC tube across the middle with bed rail supports resolved the problem.

Good luck.

Had a soft cover on my 22; never any flapping/vibration. Reinstalled on my 25 and see small "waves" in the rear-view mirror. Playing with tension screw helps but it comes back. Tightness from side to side seems to not be involved although after vibrating, I pull it tighter with the velcro on the sides. Do not know what I did different on installation???? I believe I still have not tightened it sufficiently with the tension screws but do not want to overdo it. Doing it gradually.

Well, The version2 model of this is preset from factory. There is no adjusting the spring tension. Any adjusting will void warranty. The cover is tight as drum. See my update (post #10)

I have a different brand. I suspect the "no need to adjust the tension" is probably about as effective as the Auto AC feature!!:sneaky:
