If you were choosing between Maverick Ecoboost and Ranger then Rangers a good choice, if you wanted to maintain better mpg when not trailering then Maverick hybrid AWD might be better. To me, that choice is whether you need more than 4k tow and/or how often you tow.
I seriously considered the 4K Maverick, which would have been close to the same price as the Ranger I got since they were both left over '25s. Since I already have a '24 Corolla Cross hybrid for when I don't need to tow, I went with the Ranger. I did buy the trailer and towed it home about 20 mi the other day with some stop and go, ranging from 25 to 60 MPH, and the computer showed over 18 MPG. It will probably be less at 70 mph with a headwind but pretty happy with that.

With the depreciation, extra taxes and transaction fees, this is just another cautionary tale. Buy the correct truck the first time if you want to keep your money. We've seen so many trade in's here. Glad to be in year 4 with Mav. #BuyOnce

Priorities change as life unfolds. How could I predict my wife of 44 years would pass away a little over a year ago (just before Christmas of '24) and I'd have to make some hard decisions. I gave her Forester to her sister who needed a break, sold the 5 year old van I'd been using for hauling and camping, and bought the 2K hybrid Maverick, thinking I wouldn't likely go camping alone anymore. It was a breath of fresh air at the time so served it's purpose for that if nothing else - not every decision in life revolves around money.

Six months ago I reconnected with an old Air Force friend and his wife who belong to a teardrop camping group called the Tear Jerkers and went to see them one day when the group was camping nearby. Had a blast and met a lot of nice folks so started looking for a camper.

Found one recently and decided to upgrade the truck to better meet my needs right now, not where I was a year ago. Tax was only on the difference but is capped at $500 in SC anyway. Got a very good trade-in price for the Maverick and over $3000 off sticker on the Ranger so for me it was a no-brainer.

To put it in perspective, I'm in the final phase of my life and the financial impact was low so I wasn't going to let the 'idea' of losing a little $ on a trade-in stop me. Got the right truck for the job and not looking back. YMMV

Congrats on your new Ranger it is great for towing and in the snow. I purchased mine in April of 25 and love it but I kept my maverick.

That’s like the best time to get a Ranger Raptor😅.. it’ll stay nice much longer..
Old and in a sweet Ranger Raptor sounds like the old guy I plan to be… or if I develop any major mobility issues hopefully a Mav Raptor coming out wasn’t just a joke I read online😅..
Wouldn’t that be great.

It's all about getting the right tool for the job. Off roading in a FWD Maverick probably isn't the best idea.

Yeah, during the post-covid shortages I could have made money on my van by selling it too, but would have lost that extra $ trying to buy a new vehicle, assuming I could get one I wanted in any reasonable period. Times have sure changed since then, good and bad, supplies are back but so is depreciation.

I actually bought a Honda Civic and got $2k off MSRP. I gave them my Maverick and walked out with a brand new Honda Civic and a check for $8,600.

Drove that vehicle for 14k miles until my 2025 Hybrid AWD 4K tow arrived. Gave $5,700 back on depreciation and tax on the difference in value for my Maverick but more or less got $3k to drive two new vehicles for almost 30k miles.

But I know those days are over.

You guys are crazy,
Covid hit. I paid off my vehicle,
Bought $2,000 in survival food,
3 calibers, a total 1200 rounds of my favorite pew pew rounds,
Lots of fuel, extra solar panels.

I caught Covid four times, I’ve had worse head colds.

Two really big dogs, they were some kind of Badassery most people don’t know exist,
Got my hands on some fresh anti personnel mines,
My neighbors and I started 24/7 patrols after we closed off all but one entrance.
We booby trapped the shit out of our woods,
Contacted our state Militia, got on the ready list.

We felt real safe being red necks and all that.

In the first month after the shut down we stopped three small groups of raiders looking to steal and squat.

And you guys bought vehicles,
Outstanding!

The mines, really ? You didn’t believe that part did you ?
We did have trip wires and silent alarms.
Hated those, the deer kept tripping them.

Not me, I kept my van during that time - partly because I could live in it if needed. I traded it for the Maverick about this time last year. Now I've got a Ranger and a camper, that I can live in just about anywhere if needed. That work for you Mister 'Soldier of Fortune' guy? ;-)
