I would disagree on several things you claim.
EV are more expensive to buy out right. Easy to see. Chevy blazer 36K gas and 44.6K EV blazer start price . ZERO maintenance is flat out lie. They do have a cooling system. They do break down . There is a Tesla repair shop near me. They are quite busy.

Gemini AI and google both say on average insurance cost is 49 percent MORE for equal EV car verse gas. .

Resale value after 3 years you do mention about 15 percent less for EV. . Plus tire wear you said This all adds up to total cost more than a gas version even with less pricey electricity opposed to gas. Especially if comparing to a high MPG hybrid . .

Plus added cost to install a 220 volt home charger, and don't even get me started on the dual way one were you can use EV car to run home super pricey.

So its not less money to use an EV
it has way less range
(TRIPS) Takes way way to long to charge to 100 percent as I ALWAYS fill my tank when I stop for gas on a trip I don't fill it 3/4 of the way. BUT even if I did My hybrid can go easy 375 miles on 3/4 a tank. Were a even fairly long range EV say 300 mile on 80 percent charge 240 till dead on road. No one drives to almost empty so realistically 200 miles. Assuming its not winter . Then even less.

WHY do it?? What would be the purpose? it cost more and is less convenient. It wont save you a dime . A car is for convenience to go from point A to point B for most. Sure some buy them to have fun like buying a corvette.

Sure if you have two or more cars sure like any other TOY its because you WANT it and can afford it. Go for it. BUT for the masses its EASY to see why they don't go to an EV. .

BUT hey if you can afford a play car they are super cool being so quite and they are fast. So not saying they wont sell just like corvettes sell. BUT its a very limited market.

As a few others have said .. When they cost the same can go as far as gas and can be charged as fast as filling a tank then they will sell like a gas car does now. So until then limited sales will continue. Just doesn't make sense as of now.

Oh I had to laugh about solid state battery mention. That has been talked about over a decade now. Latest fad is sodium battery tech.

.
NO hate here just the facts,.

Dan,
I'm sorry, what were you disagreeing with me on?

Dan,
Just to be clear. I agree with everything you said.

The EV Fanboys will always gloss over the time it takes to recharge. They'll say 80% is good. Out of that 80%, who's going to drive it down to zero they never throw in the extra cost $$$$ if you to use supercharger And they have tendency to be eating. They always have time for an hour to have something to eat.

I know someone that thought similar to you and purchased a volt. He only gets like 40 miles out of it . Still uses it because the cost to replace the battery is cost prohibited.
That's all they're supposed to get out of a Volt. It's a plu in hybrid. It's not an ev

According to Car and Driver mag the 2026 Nissan Leaf base model will be priced near 26K. 52 kwh battery. So 30K for Fords new "Ranchero" should be doable. We shall see. ✌
Exactly! We'll see. It may not happen at all. It may happen and not meet the price target. Or it may initially cost 30k and quickly rise in price the Maverick did. Or it may happen and meet the price target and only rise in price at the same rate as other vehicles. All we can do is wait and see. But I see some who simply WANT it to fail to come to fruition and are angry at Ford for even trying and will be angry if it's a success as if an affordable EV that people actually buy would be apersonal attack on them😅

I had the first gen volt and a second gen volt.
First gen Volt 36-40 electric only.
35-40 mpg on premium $$ 😮 gas.

Second gen Volt 50-55 electric only.
40-45 mpg on regular gas 🙂 once electric was used up.

Everybody is talking about cost...
From a Maintenance Stand point (I come from family of mechanics)..
How would you "REPAIR" the thing...
Snap-on a NEW section, Like
LEGOs?? :ROFLMAO:

I would have bought a small EV truck if it was available and reasonably priced but none available so I went with the hybrid. I probably would not trade in the Mav when the small truck EV is an option but I might consider it. We are thinking of replacing our 91 Outback with an Ioniq 5 soon. The fact is nothing new is going to save us any money and will cost more. Being retired, driving beaters would be the way cheaper option, but there is a time where reliability (Mav sort of), safety, and comfort become more important than money, and I can't see us spending on a gas burner with our use cases.

Let me add a little to this conversation with my own personal experience. My first Maverick was a 23 hybrid Lariat. Absolutely loved that truck. A guy hit me and totalled that truck. The only Maverick I could find was a hybrid XLT in January of 2024. I didn't really like it but I figured it would do until I could order a new 2025 Maverick. Well when they announced the 25s I hated them so I decided just to keep the truck until I could find something better. When they announced the tax credit ending this year I decided to seriously look at evs since I hadn't considered them before. I was surprised that I could get a RWD model Y for $37,500. I got a quote for installation of a charger and that would have been $800 but Duke energy had a incentive program that covered installation. I only had to pay $420 for the charger. Next up was selling the truck. Tesla, Ford, and carmax all offered around $24k so that would have been a $10k depreciation in 1.5 years. Luckily carvana offered me $28 so I took that offer. So far we've driven 5,200 miles since July and only spent $164 in electricity to charge it. Doing some rough math I've saved about $190 in gas compared to a hybrid Maverick so far. No regrets so far, we absolutely love the model Y.

If you are paying $0.50/kwh at home, you need to install solar on your house.
yes.
also, PG&E has declared via their puppets in Sacramento that if you produce more than you use, they get to sell the excess to other customers, and you get a credit toward any electricity you draw from their network. If you make more than what you draw from their system, tough luck.

Since I'm formerly NABCEP certified, I can install a system and just leave the final connection to a licensed electrician. The array plus powerbank would cost me about $20k, and the final connection/inspection would probably only cost me about $8-10k for the one hour of work. I'd be dead before I recovered the cost of installation vs just buying at the current criminally high rate.

PROVE this so called misinformation.
Nobody who owns an EV charges to 100% especially when on a longer trip. This is just your way of projecting what you have heard instead of actually owning and using an EV.
