so i ordered my2025 lariat in early september 25. after the folks sent me a 2026 vin, i called the ford store last week and , miraculously they were receiving exactly what i ordered, and it was in richmond, ca,waiting to be delivered.
so i drove the hour drive to morgan hill, they knew i was paying cash, check, and deal would not be done til check cleared. i wasn’t bringing the ruby red beauty home until the bed cover was installed anyway. they were going to deliver when done.
ready to write check, they have my drivers license, been emailing and phone calls all week, and they ask for more proof of who i am, some sort of computer check that i have to agree to. i said no. they asked again and sad this was mandatory. i said show me the law. no law, just store policy the inventory manager says. i said no got up to go and manager says wait, he walks away and comes back,says “sorry if you want the maverick you must say yes.”. i say no and walk out without my ruby red 25 hybrid lariat.
why in the world couldn’t i buy my maverick? why would they do this?
they could have googled me, my name comes up. ulterior motive by this ford store?

It seems like wiring money even while in the office at the time you were finalizing the paperwork would have been the best step.

YOu could go to another dealer, tell them the Maverick you want is at the other dealer and get it as dealers trade inventory all the time

I'm not sure what your dealers issue was but when I bought my 2025 hybrid I was informed that I would need a cashiers check from my bank prior to taking delivery. The alternative was to wait till a personal check cleared. Sounds like some shenanigans going on

However, on a related note, a few years ago I was going to buy a vehicle. Checked it out, negotiated, had all the paperwork done, ready to go. Last minute the Dealer pulls out another sheet to sign along with all the rest. I sort of glanced over it before signing but then something caught my eye.
I forget exactly what it was, some sort of marketing, info use consent document. It was really very extensive about how someone signing would give permission to use their info for all kinds of stuff. It was bizarre. First time I saw something like that.
I refused to sign. They said it was dealer policy.
I walked out and bought a car at another dealer with no such BS.

I bought my 24 XLT Hybrid there and they did the same to me and that was AFTER I had wired the ENTIRE payment to The Ford Store Morgan Hill. They wouldn’t release the truck until I gave them a copy of my DL. Then they said I couldn’t take immediate delivery so I told them they would have to pay me interest on the 35k I had removed from the account. They changed their mind and I took delivery the next day.

Maybe next time get a certified check from your bank, i mean who the hell uses checks to pay something off, especially one the size of a vehicle that cost 40k on your word you have it in the bank. I've bought cars with certified checks multiple times with 0 problems.

Amazing how things have changed. I remember buying a new Toyota pickup in 1981. Bought it in California on a Sunday and drove it home to Washington then went to my credit union gave them the paperwork they mailed the check to the dealer. I put no money down at the dealer and they gave me the truck just on my word.

I don't believe "capa056" was expecting to drive home the truck that day. As a matter of fact he also stated that the 'truck was going to be delivered' I believe he was there just to finish the paperwork.
Perhaps I read some words in his post that weren't there.

So why wouldn't you allow a check to be done? Just curious. I think writing a check for a new car is rare enough (though we have done it), I don't mind being checked out. I hate governemt b.s but anyone doing a large cash purchase will likely be scrutinized. My guess is this will happen to you no matter the dealership. These hassles are because of past and future bad actors.

I bought from North Bay Ford in Santa Cruz- wrote them a personal check for the truck and drove it home. No issues.

Frustrating, for sure. I would recommend that next time you get a bank check, it's like cash, that's made out to you and the dealer, that should help with waiting for your check to clear.

remember
i was happy to wait for the check to clear as i was getting extras installed. the check would have cleared tomorro, they were going to take credit card for the bed cover and were delivering to me once all was done. i did NOT expect to drive the car off the lot and they knew it.
i did not get the exact name of what they wanted for this ID check, sorry, i was a bit taken back by the request!
