My Mav was built in March. I sniffed the oil cap and the dipstick and there is definitely a gas smell.

For comparison I did the same for my 19 Vette, which has direct injection and no gas smell.

Guess it time for a dealer visit on Monday.
Jerry, if you do bring yours in, please post the results. I have a gas odor but the oil level is fine.

unless your crankcase is filling with oil....evry ford vehicle I have here at work the oil always has a gassy smell even more so on a fresh motor
Just to be clear, are you saying you are a mechanic and you smell gas in oil all the time?

I have a ‘24 ecoboost and noticed the smell of gas in the oil I drained on my first oil change at 1,900 miles. I’ve changed my oil my whole life and it jumped out at me as odd. Never smelled that before during oil changes. This is my first turbo and high pressure fuel pump vehicle though and thought I read something on this forum that that was normal for this engine. Is this something I should take in to get looked at?

Just "checked" my 3/25 XLT with 3k miles. Was already scheduled for an oil change later this week. Can not really say gas smell on cap or dipstick was overwhelming but may be just a touch. Oil level was halfway (cold engine) between full and add marks. I am still going to show them the TSB and ask them to check driving diagnostic codes as well as look for gas fumes.

What I have noticed with mine is the noisy startup now seems to last longer even after it is in gear. Also got 2.5 mpg less on my return trip but I was affected by a pretty large headwind.

Really am starting to love my traded 22 CG even more........:unsure:🙂

I'm hoping that my 6/25 Lariat is ok, only driven for 1105 miles so far.

Yes sir. Smell your oil more often. Its not a straight gas smell but its there

“Smelling” the oil for gas is hardly any sort of test for diluted oil.
There will always be some negligible gasoline in the oil from time to time, especially if driven on shorter trips or running a cold engine. Gasoline, obviously, has a strong odor and a small amount can be noticeable but even then, if you ‘want’ to smell gas in your oil, your brain will smell gas.

When I was talking about diluted oil in the gas on my Honda CRV some posts back, we ‘saw’ the gas in the oil when the level of the dipstick rose more than a half quart. This was a very noticeable event and no smell test was used.

If your dipstick is not rising then any gas in the oil is negligible and not worth fussing over.

Thanks! Agree that the "smell test" smells, and is at best, subjective.

Well, I could be burning oil that is offsetting the oil dilution.

Haha just kidding. But seriously, the slight oil dilution is not the problem - the problem is the bad batch of high pressure fuel pumps that made their way onto the assembly line.

The TSB calls for a high pressure test on the fuel pump to check for leaks not an oil analysis.

Edit…my thread title of “Oil Dilution” is misleading & I should it. Thanks for your insights on the oil dilution problems on your Honda & the causes there.

it seems like this should be a recall.... I am wondering when mine will fail.

I don't smell gas at all, just oil. BTW if you think it's fine to smell gas in the oil, pour a thimble full in the crank case. After all, it's not a problem.

Is your build date within the 10/24 to 5/25 window? Just curious.

A thimble of gas is an oil additive I would just as soon avoid, But my real concern is the faulty HP fuel pump. My oil cap & dipstick have a strong gas odor - the TSB specifically mentions this as a symptom the faulty pump.

The TSB also advises to replace any components damaged from the faulty HP fuel pump. What components are damaged by a bad fuel pump I wonder?
