Ford Maverick Vehicle is Battery Safe Mode IMG_0553
We keep getting a message about our being Battery Safe Mode and needing to be driven to charge it out.
Our truck is a 2024 hybrid Lariat. We have plenty of Ford service points. What battery should we replace the stock one with.

Look at the battery under the rear seat. See if it marked as an AGM battery. If not I think there is a recall to replace standard flooded batteries with AGMs, I may be wrong about the recall.

I have a 24 Eco, AGM battery and I get this also in winter when I haven’t driven it for a few days.

Very common on the hybrids. See the similar threads shown at the bottom of this thread. Also search the forum on words like: deep sleep, dead battery, battery save, noco, etc. Untold numbers of post, threads on the issue/subject, you'll learn enough to make your head spin.....

Your battery is probably not bad, just needs charging. Your dealer can test it and IF it fails fords specific battery test they can replace it under warranty during the battery 3 year warranty

Pretty sure all the MY24 and MY25 hybrids came with a AGM battery, MY22 & 23 had flooded batteries. There's never been a recall to replace flooded batteries in the hybrids. There was one on some of the older EB to replace the flooded with a AGM but it only covered a certain battery manufacturer and date range that was determined to have an internal defect.

The 22-24s never had an AGM battery from the factory. If you have an AGM, then it has previously been replaced without warranty. The dealer is required to do warranty replacements with the same part as the factory installed, so a new battery is an AGM only on the 25 models.

This!

Be ready for a few hours of reading though!

The short is:
You can do some maybe helpful but maybe not so helpful things like turn off connectivity to stop the drain. I did all this just to be safe.

The best option is to put an AGM in there and reset the BMS. Ford will likely not do it, as they only replace like-for-like (if they even determine the battery is bad and not just being drained). My suggestion is to go to a local mechanic and do this out of warranty if you need to - totally worth it. Even better if you can buy one and just have them install. It likely does not “fix” the problem but the higher capacity gives you more time / juice to be able go drive the truck and charge it before you have a dead battery.

And last thing is to trickle charge when you know it will be sitting for more than a few days. It’s annoying at first and not an ideal situation. But honestly, I have a little NOCO and leave it in my garage. Takes all of two minutes to plug in / unplug the truck and no harm done, as it does not “overcharge”. It’s so easy that I’ve gotten in the habit now of plugging in whenever I know I’m home for the day. Granted, my other vehicle is an EV so it’s very familiar for me!

Would love it if you did so I can compare. Please!

But all the software updates (and even replacing my infotainment unit when they wrongly diagnosed that as the issue) did not stop the issue for me.

An AGM did.

Or just do nothing. By far the biggest non-issue I've ever seen, at least for my VIN. I've been getting those messages on and off for 31 months. Original battery still and no real issues to speak of. No plans to replace the battery either, which was manufactured in 2022.

My '24 Tremor came with AGM. Or do mean Hybrid only?

Totally agreed for you then.

I had a total of four dead batteries. Two were just a case of getting out my jump pack. One of which would not even jump and had to be towed to dealer. Another jumped after a long delay and then my dashboard lit up like a Xmas tree - was then stuck in “limp mode” and also had to go to dealer. This was all within my first 10K miles or so.

The $300 I spent on an AGM is the best money I’ve spent on this truck. No issues at all in over 10K miles. Fingers crossed.

When did they come up with the software fix. I talked to DEALER a couple weeks ago and they still had nothing. Thank you

The software update SSM53801 is available. I had it installed several weeks ago on my 24 Lariat hybrid, it did not resolve the battery saver mode. Additionally I insisted they replace the battery (again), only this time install an AGM which they did under warranty after some negotiating. I did have to pay a $100 upcharge but that beats $250 retail. They reset the BMS and did some other reprogramming They even brought in a field service engineer to oversee the process. In the end, the battery saver mode returned and I'm back to square one.
So my advice is: do not pay out of pocket for your own AGM battery. Negotiate with the dealer to get one installed under warranty and it will be covered for another 3 years. Keep in mind it may not help. At the same time get the software update keeping in mind that may not work either. That's about all you can really do and it just might work for you. As for me, I'll keep taking it back until they either fix the problem or they buy it back. Good luck.
