Those are not the vents that have anything to do with recirc or fresh air mode on climate control.

Those vents are up under the dash.
Take your glove box out, and cabin air filter, and you may be able to see sunlight if bright enough out, looking up thru where the filter was.
Turn truck on - mess with fresh/recirc modes and note the movements to the left, and the change in sunlight filtering thru.

The only thing the vents under discussion have to do with that is in flesh air mode and extra air in needs a place to go out. But as early post shares - even more important for door closing and window rattle.

There is no ability to "only time they will be closed all the time" - because it's a flapper.
I discovered driving with seat down - even in recirc mode it was being pulled open probably by low pressure under truck - made a racket.
Though it might have been good listening for some sounds of truck running - perhaps suspension noises.
The a/c system will switch from recirc mode to fresh air after a certain amount of time due to software to allow fresh air to vent stale air and keep you awake.
Correction, Info not in owners manual but the shop manual.

My apologies. The way you worded your comments made it appear to me that you didn't.

The succinct way to state how the air extractor vent works is that it passively reduces cabin pressure. It is basically a one way pressure valve allowing air pressure out, but not in.
Sorry . Fingers do not always follow the mind sometimes

No need to apologize. What I type definitely doesn't always follow what's in my head even though I swear it does! ;)

Can I ask fello Maverick owners who deleted their rear seat, how you solved this vent to be quiet but yet still functional?

I like the approach that @notfast is taking.

The rear seat not only acts as a sound barrier to the vent, but it also "buffers" the air moving through the cabin and out that vent. So, once you remove the seat, the air from the climate control or the windows is going to have a direct route through the cabin and right out through the vent, rather than around the rear seat in an indirect manner.

So, an angled box with one end open, sealed over the vent and stuffed with some medium-density foam as @notfast has suggested might just work as a buffer for noise and the rush of air through the vent.

…I get that the vent allows air pressure to be released, but, what's on the outside? Is there anything in the outer area of the flaps, to block access to rodents, bugs, etc.? I've yet to find a diagram anywhere, and physically looking doesn't work? It's bad enough worrying about them getting in under the hood? In my Ranger, and wife's Subaru, I had to use chicken-wire to block them (and not the air), from entering the air-intake lead-ins, ....though, they still caused issues elsewhere... and, I am not sure I want to mess with the intake on the Maverick? Luckily, a stray 'barn-cat' has recently made itself at home, and the number of kills she has accounted for is crazy.... but, still?...
I would certainly appreciate any info... 😺

It exits just below the front of the bed floor. I haven't actually crawled under to look at this to give any extra details about its accessibility, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's hidden behind a panel.

Just to clarify That is not the only vent. There is one behind both C pillar trim panels.

I'm sorry, I just assumed everyone knew the vent behind the rear seat was a one-way vent flap. Air cannot enter through it, only exit. If the air pressure inside the cab is higher than outside (like closing a door or turning on the fan for the vents), the flap will open to let the higher pressure out. Since it's a one-way flap, if the pressure is higher outside the cab, it cannot open, and the exiting air when open prevents any air from coming in.

Thank you, Tbone289... hopefully being hidden/enclosed makes it inaccessible to rodents and the like?!

Hopefully. I'll take a look at it next time I'm under there.

Hey guys and gals,

Thank you in advance.
I got the chance to remove the rear sear for more cargo over this weekend.

But came to a problem, hope someone on this forum solved as it seems like a problem for everyone who removed their rear seat.

So after the rear seat removal. The vent on the back wall in the center (photo attached) opens due to the air flow coming when driving over 20kms per hour.

Apparently this vents out to the bottom of the truck so when the door closes it doesn’t break a window or what not.

The problem of this vent opening when driving is huge.. Road noise and also interior temperature wise.

Can I ask fello Maverick owners who deleted their rear seat, how you solved this vent to be quiet but yet still functional?

Sorry! Where are my manners LOL
I am awaiting on the 3/4” Plywood cut. It’s basically an empty space.

Sadly I can’t go to the back sear while I drive to figure out where the noise is coming from; either the foam pas behind the passenger seat or the vent in the center. Will try to plug the vent with some foam or clothing/fabric and update :)

Thank you for all the reply everyone.
