Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any experience tucking a dash cam power wire around the windsheild and A pillar. Id like to tucking it into the headliner and a pillar. Worried about the airbags especially.

I routed the cable down the A-pillar behind the airbags and secured the top and bottom with a couple zip ties to make sure the cable stayed in place.

Did you remove the a pillar trim? If so how hard was it
I tend to break trim pieces when messing around with them.

For all intents and purposes, a loose cable in the a-pillar trim will be of little hindrance to an airbag that inflates with an explosive charge at upwards of 200mph. The airbag literally breaks through a wrap of tape that keeps it rolled up, rips through the headliner and weatherstripping, and pops off the a/b/c pillar trim (usually retained by leashes so they don't go flying around the cabin).

I haven't done it on a Maverick specifically, but I've done dozens of dash cam installs. The A-pillar trim is usually just retained with press-fit clips so that the airbag can pop it out of the way. If you just pull the weatherstripping off the A-pillar, you should be able to either grip the trim from the exposed edge, or maybe look through the gap to see where and what kind of clips are holding it in place.

The a-pillar trim will most likely only pop off an inch or two. This is again by design so that it doesn't become a projectile when the airbag deploys. Once you pop off the trim, the retainers can usually be released by sliding them off the trim piece one way or another. Sometimes they have like a one-way T-clip that needs to be rotated 90 degrees to fit through a slot in the trim.

Once the trim is removed, you can easily zip-tie the cable to what will most likely be an existing wiring harness behind the airbag assembly. Even the most basic vehicles have a wiring harness to power the map lights.

It would be nice to have a Library of “how to” tech reference videos of these types of projects.

I saw a video where someone removed the a-pillar trim, but when I ran mine I didn't.
To start I removed the black cover behind the rear view mirror, very easy with a trim tool. I was hoping this would stop the rattle coming from this piece, but it made it worse. Confirmed it's here because while driving if I press up on this piece the rattle stops. It's not too annoying because I haven't fixed it yet.
In the video they say it's really easy to just push the wire under the headliner, and this was 100% true, it's very easy.
I think I then pushed the cable in to the black trim between the door and the pillar.
Then in to the grommet, behind the glove box, and over to a 12v to USB charger. I haven't gone to the fuse box yet, I just plug the charger in to the 12 port.
It was a very quick and easy job. I need to fix the rattle and go to one of the ignition on fuses.

I was able to pull the trim off and tuck the wiring in behind the air bag. No issue. Just take your time.

That's the kind of stuff I am worried about.
Yep, not getting that trim piece back properly would bother me.
If the airbag goes off and you've got the cord in the wrong place and it catches the dash cam cord. Would airbag inflate with enough force to pull the dash cam off of the windshield and into to somebody?🤷‍♂️

I gently tucked the cord into the Headliner and then down the A pillar and up under the dash using the trim tool from the kit every vehicle owner should have. I didn't need to remove any trim and my cord is out of site where it has stayed for several months now. Maybe I'm just lucky, but i would try it this way before pulling down any trim

Exactly, which is why I can't understand why anyone would position anything on, or in front of where the airbags could deploy. A phone mounted with a vent clip, a misplaced cable in front of an airbag, or any other object that could travel at 100mph, could do some serious damage.

Did this same think - just worked the wire behind the airbags more towards the door. Just plugging the USB into the "A USB" slot or using an adapter in the cig lighter 12 volt power. Plastic pry bars to
work the wire behind the headliner and along the weather strip by the door and A pillar.

I will check that out. Don't care if some shows. Just makes it neater.
