It should be recalled and redesigned as it is a safety issue - drivers of other vehicles going the opposite direction are distracted and thrown off balance when a '25 Maverick passes by them.

It's very similar to the eye-busting effect that a Cybertruck or Aztek causes in the same situations.
A bikini on the wrong person can cause that too. Come to think of it, so can a bikini on the right person...

Maybe this will spark an uplifting discussion on how stoopid backup cameras (and maybe seat belts and self-adjusting brakes) are. Hoping against hope that it doesn't.

Nah, it's "Stoopid" to combine too many systems to try to save money.

Other manufacturers haven't had the same recall issues, their backup cameras work just fine.

HECK I even paid $150 for a camera to plug into my 2016 Miata that didn't come with one, and it works perfectly. The infotainment system is used on other Mazdas, somehow the Miata was small enough the cam wasn't legally required.

Is it clickbait? It’s a Newsweek article released 5 hours ago and it says the letters will go out on July 28th. You would think Newsweek would be a somewhat reputable source but who knows.
Anything you read on Google is 90% B S, if you pay them enough they'll let sell Cat Shit & Vingar as a cure for the common cold.

It's 2016, just bought it this year to replace my 2000 Miata.

Though the '16 is a small car, the rear headrest tubes and higher trunk lid make it feel very less "open" than the flat older car.

What may be new, because I didn't look closely at the original - is all the other older model years in the list.

But with that many models and only that number recalled - I still think it's a re-announce.

If this was a new software upgrade coming, for all those years and models - it would be well over 200k.

So not inaccurate reporting by Newsweak, but lazy. Look at a Ford or NHSTA release and missed a paragraph or wasn't aware enough to connect a couple dots, so lack of research.

I've had the first recall done, and just yesterday I was noticing the backup camera stayed on for like a 1/4 mile of forward travel.

Yes, it should.

I, for one, like it.
Makes it easier to find the white line behind you in a parking lot.
The screen goes normal at 5mph.
I know but not for a quarter mile.
I actually posted about it in June and included the information from the manual.
Actually if the backup camera is in delayed mode.
It will keep the camera on until you reach 5 mph of forward speed.
Or put the Maverick into Park.

My wife's 2016 Escape does the same thing, but it's only for 5 seconds.
Maybe I shouldn't have but I assumed that "bartflossom" was not driving a quarter mile less than 5 miles an hour.

I found it very curious that the system already is setup for it, they just didn't install one.

I literally just bought the camera, cut a hole in the bumper cover to attach it, ran the cable, plugged it in, and it worked!!!
