First thread on a trip journal!

Route was from San Diego-Mt St Helens-Seattle- Cape Flattery, then hitting as many national parks and preserves on my way down the 101! Hoh National rainforest, lot of spots in the Olympic National Park and the beaches all along the washington and oregon coast. Hit the Coastal Redwoods as well in California before diving off across the mountians above San Francisco to meet back up with the 5 back down to San Diego!

Overall the truck handled beautifully! 2 lane twisty coastal backroads, one lane dirt roads and some light offroading, sand on the beach, it took it all splendidly. I did notice I tanked my gas mileage on the i5, it doesnt really shine on the highway other than still being better than most trucks, super comfortable to drive and able to set cruise control which is a big deal on road trips!
Did a lot better on the 101 and all along the forest service roads!

Slept out of the bed for most of the trip, i had a hodgepodge rack put together that required some light alterations to get it set up for the maverick bed, ill go into what i did to it later! Slapped a canvas tarp on top with a net and didnt loose anything i crammed in there all along the trip. Truck kept everything i needed electrical charged with the interior ports.

Other than that, it served exactly what i needed and worked beautifully. Planning a lot of smaller trips and another large one next year.

Did a similar trip last year...have another one coming up. I've done several cross-country trips and northern Calif, Oregon and Washing, Idaho and Montana are always my favorites...and man does the Hybrid do a home run on fuel savings. Lewis and Clark spent 8 winter months of freezing temperature near the Astoria bridge near Astoria.

Spent a lot of time along the Columbia...always one of my favorites is the Tillamook Air Hanger you probably drove right by. It is probably still the world's largest wooden structure. A WWII blimp hanger build there to monitor the Pacific Coast after Pearl Harbor....the inside is amazing. After 80 years the wooden frame structure, an engineering marvel, is still standing. It is now a museum.

Your beautiful pictures remind me of when I was 10.
Dad decided to take the family cross country. Part of the trip was going from San Diego up to Crater Lake. Many stops on the way.
Started in Jersey and ended in Jersey.
Two years later, (1983)they made a movie about us. Although we didn't have the dead aunt, dog, or the Ferrari., but we had our own Clark Griswold.

Be careful parking that truck in those forests. You might not be able to find it again :cwl: . That green blends well with the backdrop. Nice post and pictures, thanks.
haha i did notice that along the way! definitly blends into the woods!

It's a few bucks admission; but a small family attraction on private land. And lets face it. Where else are you going to drive through a tree without harming your Maverick! (I did it with a previous vehicle 10 years ago.)

Fabulous photos! Did a similar trip right out of college many years ago in a pickup camper shell. Thanks for the memories.
