PTU oil change at 5800 miles

I've read that the factory underfilled the PTU and that the oil is full of particulate. Well, both were true for me. Got 8-10 oz out, PTU held 16. As you can see, the oil has 0 translucense and tiny, shiny specs of something in the sunlight. People should probably change and fill early.

Great idea to change the fluids early.. I changed my PTU at just over 3K miles.. not quite as dark , but still had a lot of color to it , and under filled as well

I just got my 25 back from the dealer after my PTU failed. 8600 miles and it failed. I plan on changing the fluid in 1K miles since they installed a brand new unit and I'm sure there's metal in there.

Power Transfer Unit. Pretty much the transfer case.

I would imagine all AWD. You have to get power to the rear differential...

Did the rear differential today. Atvleast it was properly filled, but this is less than 6k miles and 0 towing

My experience with the PTU on my truck too. Underfilled from the factory. Always good to get the factory fluids out.

You are right with changing it 1K miles for the new unit.

I recently did mine and used Amsoil Severe Gear 75/90 and once we get into the blazing hot ass TX summer , I will run 75/110. These little units don't hold much for fluid and need all the help they can get
