I have a 2023 XLT hybrid delivered August 2023. with the CONTINENTAL PROCONTACT TX 225-65-17/ I have just over 17 K miles. I also have another set of wheels with blizzak snows. So for two winters used those. Yet my tires MIGHT make it to end of this summer. So maybe 11 K miles on the oem tires. .

Anyone else have this bad a result??? I drive slow too.

My previous vehicle was a 2020 ecosport I sold just under 3 years 28K miles and the tires were about the same as mine are on maverick. BUT that had 28K BUT also had snows for the Ecosport too for winter. So the Mav oem tires REALLY are BAD.

Is it just me???

I think I will get Hankook Kinergy PT tires next. ........... 90 K warranty If I get 60 K I will be happy.

The tires provided by the factory were and are the cheapest specification tires and also different from the same tires that are sold to the consumer even with the same branded tires. The tire companies will provide the tires that meet the factory specifications at the cheapest price possible as the factory will dictate the price they will pay and nothing more.

I have always called the tires on new vehicles gumbos as they are round and will hold air for a time until the thread wears out.

Oh I agree BUT this is the WORST I have ever encountered. Maybe by end of summer 15 K miles on them and they wil be bald.

My factory spec Michelins are doing great so far. I expect I’ll get only 25,000 because I’m in the Appalachian mountains and am turning a lot.

My 25,000 estimate is based on 6mm useable tread because I always replace at 4 mm, I never go to the wear bars at 2mm.
I’ve used 1mm of tread and am at 4,600 miles.
4,600 X 6 =27,600 miles, yeah I’ll make it to 25K

Interesting post on tires, there have been other threads here saying the same thing about tires wearing out early.

Some may be due to hard driving, some thoughts that the OEM tires are not the same as the ones you buy at the store...be it a softer tire compound, maybe the tires don't have as much tread as a retail tire.

I am going out to check mine on my Lariat as they are Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT.

Okay, so mine have a treadwear rating of 680 etc, and at about 5000 kms/3000 miles since new, the tread depth is measured in several tires and places to be about 10/32's.

The treadwear rating, temp rating etc are pretty important as to projected tire wear.

How does this compare to your tire info and tread depth, if you have a guage?

Mine are conservatively used with a little light towing locally.

Cheers,

Andy

The factory Pirelli's on my FX4 are still looking pretty good (6/32" measured) at just over 20K miles. I think the Conties were the worst available and Ford should be ashamed of putting them on a new vehicle.
I have heard the same about the Continentals on the other threads.

I think tire manufacturers are shooting themselves in the foot by providing short life tires!

If they don't last, the last thing I will do is put the same back on. Of course I do my research well in advance and follow @Cherokee example that I don't run them down to the wear bars...no "skin to win" the wear your tires out the most contest for this fella!

Andy

I may be starting a new thread shortly on my dissatisfaction with the provided spare tire...and my thoughts...(go figure, right?)

I have 6/32" on my 23 hybrid XLT at 19,030 OEM Continentals.
They certainly did not start out at 10/32"
I don't expect to get much more than a year's worth of wear on them.

On the Transit (not Connect) forum, there is a VERY wide range of reports of stock tire life.
Some people say they "need" new tires at 10k, others have reached over 60k+ on the same tires before wear reaches the marks.
I suspect it's mainly driving style, some people wear out tires very fast.
Regardless, here's my solution to cheap tire replacement:
There are always those people that want to express their creativity via tires and rim installations. Many practically (and do) give away their stock tires and rims with less than 1000 miles on them. Both the Hankook and Conti ones. I've picked up two sets of practically brand new mounted tires for my Transit (not Connect) for free and one set for $100 (including spare). If you are not interested in making an impression on strangers via your tires and rims, you can almost get FREE tires for the life of your vehicle. My local CL and FB Marketplace has several complete sets of Maverick tires with only a couple thousand miles on them for $200 or less. And the rims come with them. There are a few free sets.

Part of the problem is the tires new only had 8/32 of tread, where most tires have either 10/32 or 12/32.

I would like to add, that some of the manufacturers may shrink the tread depth, but my Goodyear tires aren't one of them by the looks of the present tread remaining at:

5000 km/3000 miles
at 10/32 tread depth

I should have measured them when new, but life was very busy at that time end January.

Any other drivers that have new tires to measure their tread, or add their tire type/mileage and tread depth remaining?

Would be interesting but right now, from this thread, Continentals are on my bad list.

Hello OP, any chance of you getting your treadwear/traction/temperature rating for your tires and the approximate tread depth you are at?

Thanks,

Andy

I just looked up the OEM tire on Tire Rack and they list the Procontact as a 55k mile tire UTQG: 500 AA

I just checked my Goodyear Wrangler Territiry HT tires online, and they have a 10/32" tread depth, so my tires haven't worn down at all yet. This is reassuring!

Treadwear rating on my tire is 680 so, I would consider that a longer life indication. Depends on driving style/use.
