If it's that rural, just find a back road and pick a tree. That's how we roll out here in the country. 😬

Looks good to me. For the siren I bet you could have fit one of the square metal speakers in there. They have a little more umpf. I got one of those STL brand remote panel kits for lights and PA. I just use it on tourists and crazy drivers. But thank you for what you do.

I could have fit my conventional speaker in there without issue, but the control unit in the cab was really too big unless I wanted to mount it under the seat. And a lot of cabling through the firewall. This cheap speaker is 100 watts. Typically, I am only driving 5 miles to grab a fire truck from one our sayalite stations.

I think you can classify that area as really rural. Last year when my wife and I drove up to see the elk. We were in need of a restroom and it took us 45 minutes to find a public restroom.
If you were in Elk country, that's 1½ hrs South of here - and really rural. The population of that very large county is only ~8,000 people. So, yeah, very few facilities. Had you driven just a bit north into Ponca (pop. 111), there are restrooms at the elk education center, BOC outfitters and Lost Valley hiking trail.

Don’t remember exactly where we were at but I figured there would be some thing closer than backtracking to Ponca. Plus about a week before we’d gone through Ponca and there was nothing open. It was worth it really beautiful country and got to see several elk. They sure aren’t afraid of automobiles one was about 20 feet from the Mav. Wife was afraid it would butt her new truck. I think it was just admiring the bright shiny new truck, it had about 500 miles on it at that time. Now has over 10,000 miles on it.

@nhbiker1961 ahh, I remember those days fondly.
Like @OleFordGuy I am also a former 20 year volunteer FF/EMT then Paramedic who was paid on call by the ambulance district for EMS calls.
I was a certified EMS provider for 27.5 years.
I have still have my blue light card from my days of running lights and siren in my POV.
I carried gear and a fully stocked EMS bag along with O2 because often times the call was between home and the EMS base, so I would go straight to the scene and someone else would bring the fire truck from one station and the ambulance from base.
I did not get to carry my own SCBA, as our department only had enough SCBA units for the apparatus.

Stay safe and thank you for your service!

Here is some good information on % volunteer/paid on call/full time
Huge variation by region. In some states, over 90% is volunteer.

Thanks. That is great information. I must say I was very surprised at the percentage now days of the current volunteer percentage - it is the Year 2025....... Was not uncommon in the old days, but geez, not what i expected now. Strange how cities/towns allocate resources especially for first responders

Yes, in many areas the fire department is the only EMS. Many rural hospitals are closing and the EMS goes with it. In many cases fire departments handle more EMS calls than any other service. Info on the rural hospital situation: https://ruralhospitals.chqpr.org/

I went from a full-sized Dodge Ram to a Maverick, and the radio and sirens that were installed were too much of a space hog to set up in the Maverick. SO I downsized the equipment and made it work.

Just in the last 2 years, 2 volunteer departments dissolved. They are now satellite stations of our dept. We absorbed them, giving any members from those departments to become part-time paid firefighters/EMS.
