We have two Mavericks a d both have trifold tonneau covers. One is the Ford product installed by the dealer that came with the truck, and the other on our second Maverick is a trifold tonneau I ordered on Amazon and installed myself (I think it's made by a company called Cheetah?)

At any rate, the covers are practically identical and the Amazon one I ordered and installed myself was less than half the cost of the dealer installed Ford product and took me about half an hour to get in place. I would sell the bifold one, if I were you, and buy a trifold and self install it. Complain to the dealer about their poor service on the cover and maybe you'll get some FordPass points or something.

Hello all, I have yet another post on tonneau covers to add to the forum.

Only this time I'm seeking advice/validation on my situation.

When I ordered my truck, the dealer said the tri-fold tonneau cover from ford could hold the order up. Weather was going to get bad soon, and my wife's car sucks to drive in the snow. (Open diff fwd). so i couldn't afford any delays. I said no problem we can order it through the dealer.

Fast forwards to January and my truck comes in. Great. Dealer gets the winter tires and tonneau cover all set up for me.

When I show up to pick it up, not only is it not a ford oem cover but it's a triad 2 fold. On a 4.5 foot bed.

Okay, no problem I thought. I'll live with it and see how it goes.

Well so far it's been crap. I've had to take it off 3 times completely in the last month to use my bed, because who puts a 2 fold on a 4.5 foot bed? Folded back my usable space is 3 feet?! the hardware is jank and I'm already missing pieces, it seals well enough, but I'm using the bed less like a trunk than I originally anticipated. I paid 1200$ canadian loonies for this crap expecting a ford tri fold and got this crap.

Now 2 questions,

1. Am I justified in my frustration at not getting an oem cover or did the dealer do me a favor in some roundabout way?
2. Is it worth it to sell this turd and try finding someone selling the oem ford cover?

Just very frustrated at this.

A year ago, I purchased a tri-fold hard cover from MOSTPLUS, delivered to my door for $400. I took my time and positioned it perfectly on the bed frame BEFORE applying the peel n stick rubber seal to the front edge behind the cab, as I had researched this beforehand and the main issue was that most people that had issues with the TAILGATE fitting correctly was they installed the front tape right up against the cab rear window, which won't provide for a leak-free tailgate seam. I positioned mine where it needed to be to provide a decent tailgate seal, and it seals perfectly, even thru automatic car washes. It has two small LED lights in the rear third portion (which reminds me I got to replace the disc battery in it), that provide adequate illumination when dark. The thing I like the most is, I can place heavy groceries on top of it when unloading, and NOT have to worry in the least about it collapsing or bending. And it completely comes off in less that a minute with a little bit of practice. For the money, I'm a real happy camper.

I ordered the Ford trifold when I ordered the truck. Heard that it could hold up the build but that didn't happen. It was delivered well within times of those who didn't have the trifold. When I remarked to my Ford guy at the dealership that it wasn't held up for putting it on in Mexico he said that they are not put on in Mexico and that it was installed here when it and the trifold arrived together. And I have not had any leaks in the truck bed, it works just fine.

There must be some confusion somewhere. I just looked at the undercover triad Maverick hardcover. It's a tri-fold cover just like every other tri-fold cover. The "tri" means it's three panels, the "fold" means it folds. The back panel folds onto the middle panel, then you can fold those two onto the front panel by the cab, then latch it down. If you want one that flips up against the cab then you have to buy a flip version, and you still lose eight or so inches of your bed.

I won't lie, it sounds like the OP got something not too much worse than the OEM Ford Soft Tri-fold. I have one on my '22 and maybe the OEM soft tonneau has changed since then but it technically only has 2 sections that fold, leaving about 1/3 of the bed unavailable when the tonneau is open. The hardware seems ok on mine but I can see how someone might feel different about it as it is a lot of plastic. I have certainly become annoyed with it having two separate latches, one on each side of the bed, that need to be secured. Some day I will replace it with a hard roll up tonneau but for now, I live with it.

None of the Ford accessories are OEM. They don't make any of them. They are all third-party accessories but some are rebranded with a Ford sticker. Undercover makes the triad that he has on his truck. Undercover also makes the Ford branded swing out tool boxes. I just went to Ford Maverick accessories website, they don't even list a hard trifold anymore. When it was there it could have been an undercover triad with a Ford sticker on it.

Get a WeatherTech trifold. I love mine. I can pop it off in 5 minutes single handed. Putting it back on just a bit longer.

Sounds like you are stuck with it. Should not have driven off the lot unless you got what you wanted. Either roll up or trifold, like the backflip will give you the most room.

Sorry to hear about your frustrating issue. My 2023 came without the spray in bed liner and the pacing cruise control. "I really miss adaptive cruise control" I bought an aftermarket Tri fold and my personal belief is that the majority of them are made by the same company with slightly different hardware/nameplates. For the most part it is semi waterproof but tends to leak at both end a bit and it only loose about 5 or 6" without removal which is super easy.

Oof. I would never sign for something so major without fully inspecting it first.
FWIW My dealer wouldn't install accessories or do the dealer-installed SIBL on my truck until I did all the paperwork and technically 'owned' the vehicle.

I have a BAK Revolver X4TS from RealTruck on my buggy and am happy with it. Had it on almost 2 years and have not had a need to remove it. Just roll it up.
that is good to know, Thanks. I wish the dropship timeline was not so long.

So sorry to hear the frustrating time you've had with your dealership! I wish you luck with whatever route you choose to address this with your dealer.

If you decide to look for a new tonneau cover, I have the OEM REV Hard Roll-up Tonneau cover, and although I love the functionality and ease-of-use, I am not impressed with the quality of the product. The Ford badge came off the cover in the car wash, and the fabric lining on the underside of the cover peeled off within a year of ownership. One of the plastic clips that secure the cover in the rolled-up position shattered when snapping it into place, and positioning the weather stripping is a little finicky. Also, when the weather is cold out, rolling up the tonneau is a hassle, and something in the aluminum slats makes a snapping sound when trying to roll it because the cold weather makes all of the material really stiff. When the cover is rolled up, keep in mind that it will block the lower-half of your rear window, which does reduce some of your rear visibility. I would suggest looking at other hard rollup covers to specifically see what their policy on replacement parts is (or if they even offer replacement parts).

With that being said, the tonneau cover has done everything it has been advertised to do, and even though it looks a little more beat-up now than it used to, I have been very happy with its overall reliability.

Being Canadian you have 2 good choices. One is the Bison hard cover or CW Limited. Both offer free install if you are close to thier shops. I have a CW on mine and am extremely happy with it. I got the fold back 2.0

Speaking of covers, Has anyone here put a Roll'n'Lock cover on their Maverick? I had one on my Tundra for 10 years and it really was fantastic. Since I work for a magazine it was done for promotional consideration. They are expensive I'm wondering how much space you lose using it on a Maverick as the Tundra of course was bigger.
