I’m sorry sir but you are incorrect. I witnessed it first hand and could hear the driveshaft engages and disengage at roughly 15 mph. @Ford Motor Company please feel free to comment but according to this diagram there is indeed a clutch in the PTU (not transfer case btw) which allows the rear drive shaft to engage and disengage which quite frankly seems like a much more robust system then engaging and disengaging via the RDU

Notice it says PTU (with disconnect clutch)

My mistake, that’s new tech. I was under the assumption it was working off the same system as the focus RS with different gearing. A solid transfer case and torque vectoring VIA the diff with an overdriven axle ratio.

I would imagine the regular AWD Maverick doesn’t have that PTU disconnect, since most vehicles still only use the clutch packs between the end of the driveshaft and the rear diff.

Now that makes me wonder if your rear diff is overdriven as well and they’re taking up some of the slack with the PTU disconnect. I know they had issues the the RS rear diff and it’s probably because of the constant slip and heat, but to make the Lobo do what they showed it can and have a higher rear torque split, it would have to be an overdriven rear axle.

Scratch that, I’m seeing a PTU disconnect motor on old Maverick PTU’s. Interesting choice, not sure why they’re doing it. It’d be cool if it allowed an overdriven rear end but I doubt it is.

Also I just call it a transfer case because that’s what the community refers to it as on my other car.

The Focus RS PTU worked very differently because it was behind a manual transmission and because it was capable of torque vectoring, which none of the Maverick PTUs can do. The Focus RS default mode was 30% front 70% rear bias, and the Maverick is 50/50 from a stop and can't send more than 50% rearward but it can truly go to 100% front, that's why he was hearing the banging of the driveshaft disengaging and engaging. If a 22-24 owner with the 6.5" driver panel enables the intelligent AWD status screen in 'MyView' they'll see the graphical display that matches what the OP observed.

(edit) the thing that differentiates the Tremor and now Lobo PTU from the rest is just coolant lines, but they're important. That's why they have a locked mode and other models don't - because without the liquid cooling, under heavy use the PTU will overheat and the clutches are off. It probably still can overheat on a liquid cooled unit, I just haven't seen anyone complain of that, yet.

Evo community did that as well, but to me, it's not really a transfer case unless you have low range 4wd. Otherwise, to me it's some form of a center differential. 🤷‍♂️

So interesting enough, I know a lot of people are under the impression that it’s the same rear end as the focus rs but it’s not. It’s an updated rear end from Dana that has double the amount of clutch packs as the focus RS and doesn’t require any external cooling. On top of that a lot of people where pushing 400+ hp out of the RSs so I think it very unlikely these rear ends will give much problems in the beginning. The PTU is a whole nother story I think these will go out long before the rear end on the tremors. The PTUs are packed up right by the engine and transmission where a lot of heat is being produced and it takes very little oil like 1 or two quarts I think. In the tremor it does get external cooling so that might help the oil not break down as quickly but I’m still replacing the PTU, RDU and Transmission fluid yearly. I abuse my shit but I’m a stickler for maintenance

so, it's better in that regard, that's good to hear. I wonder how the size of the axles compares.

Okay I at least know for a fact the RS PTU has no clutches, it’s only a gear linkage. The rear diff is overdriven and there’s a clutch between each rear axle. That’s how it torque vectors and sends more torque to the rear diff, it increases clamping on either side’s axle clutch.
The Tremor diff is the same basic design concept, but I don’t know if it’s overdriven. The Lobo would have to also do the same thing to behave like an RS, but we know it has a PTU coupling, so I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s rear diff is also overdriven.

To be fair, at least the evo X has a real center differential PLUS a torque vectoring rear diff.
A real center diff in transverse cars is extremely uncommon because of the packaging.

Just to bring it bag to the Mavericks. I just think the fact that I’ve had all these impacts and drivetrain parts break and no frame damage is impressive. Coming from f250s/f150s my biggest worry about the maverick was the unibody design. Not anymore. I think if you own a maverick you should not be worried about its unibody design or lack of a true frame. It’s approve that it is built ford tough

Just don’t get rear ended too hard, apparently… 🫠 that’s all I’m worried about

So I’ve heard. I think if it wasn’t for the hitch their it would fair better in a rear end
