This caught my eye as I took have the 1" RC lift, am nearing replacement time on the stock Scorpions and am considering the Firestone AT's. Did you notice in differences in road noise on the highway or fuel economy?
The Destination AT2s are likely the simply best in-class tire for the Maverick

Is it possible to turn the white outline letters in and get black letters out with these? It seems like every time I see them they're OWL. These seem to have no competition for a lightweight AT tire that has decent on-road manners.
Yes it is and you are correct

depends on what characteristics you value.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=292

tirerack doesn't rank them all that high in snow performance. if you live in the desert southwest, likely that's an acceptable trade-off, but the tire rack also doesn't test mud traction.

generally I've found that the two are often similar as a tire needs to eject either packed snow or mud to have good traction. there are a lot of tires good in the mud that don't have the 3pms rating though, because of the tread compound is too hard or they don't have enough sipes to get traction in mixed snow/ice conditions.

Here's likely better testing from some folks that aren't trying to sell you something

Also, sincerely, from a Canadian, if you need winter / snow / ice performance, use your brain and buy the tire made for it.

There is literally no tire good in the mud that is good in the snow. That is not how this works. That is why there are no good mud tires with 3pms

Yeah, I should have qualified that. I don't value mud or snow performance. The majority of my off-roading is done in the front range of the Rockies or the San Juans before snowfall so, dry and rocky. I live in MO most of the year and thus don't need much snow performance and I avoid mud as much as possible.

well... kind of, but not exactly. what historically was called 'mud terrain' is now called 'max traction' and yes, there are not any 3pms rated mud terrain / max traction.

but I would bet there ARE 3pms rated all-terrain that are better in the mud than the destination at2, because it has a tight tread pattern that is optimized for road performance.

100% agreed on buying the tire you need. I responded because you said this:
The Destination AT2s are likely the simply best in-class tire for the Maverick
and then I said this:
depends on what characteristics you value.

I mean, fair enough, but let's talk sense here

I said "Best in-class tire for the Maverick"

Meaning, that for anything the maverick is capable of (not mud-bogging) it is the best in class tire.

If you care at all about snow performance for more than an inch of it, you should be looking at getting winter tires.

I ran these for a month in the Canadian winter, better than any tire I have ever used that wasn't a winter tire.

Still double the stop distance of a winter tire.

Not even Wildpeak AT3w compares to a winter tire in the winter, let alone on sheer ice.

I get what you are saying, but I am not sure you get what I am saying.

As far as a Maverick is concerned, you are going to have to make a much better argument to sway my opinion.

The folks I have posted above have a LOT of information on this and many other tires, conditions, etc.

These are corroborated with many other high-value testing methods.

I have done more research into this than you, I would reckon.

I've now put about 300 miles on these tires and I'm happy to report back that they have been great! On-road characteristics are good, 100% acceptable not only for the Maverick but really for any vehicle looking for a mild AT tire.

In response to those chatting about tires in the winter, I'll say these tires have also been good so far. I'm getting good traction on snow-covered roads, and decent on ice. Seems like the ABS barely needs to kick in now when driving on snow. These tires are MILES better than the Pirelli Sorpion ATR. Hard to even call that tire an AT, it's really just an all-season with a cool tread pattern. I'm waiting for a good 6-10" kind of snowfall to get out and test these more.

I plan on rotating these tires every 3k miles, just like I did with the Scorpions. Yes, that's very frequent, but the Scorpions were getting really noisy even by 2k miles. From my experience with other vehicles too, AWD is brutal on tires so I don't mind rotating them frequently. It's a front-cross rotation too, not just a simple front-to-back.

Have you noticed any change in your MPG?
I went from 5.8L / 100kms across 75k kms (including over 40k kms with winter tires on) up to 6.2L / 100kms across the 12k kms after, but the lifetime across 92k kms is still sitting on 5.8

My first 15k kms during the period between when I got the truck, and the first winter was about 4.9L / 100kms

Certainly a measurable difference.

I had horrible hydroplaning, terrible grip, tires would chirp leaving a stop light, and they were down to 2/32s after 30k kms on (winter lasts for longer than summer up here) not to mention it did not feel safe being above 60km/hr on gravel with the OEM tires

This, despite the reduction in fuel economy, has me fallen in love with the truck all over again

You are precisely correct.

Those ATRs and for that matter, any "AT Trail" tire is simply for people that spend 99% of the time on pavement and want to avoid the odd slip getting to campsite

For me, a LOT of my driving is on gravel (though certainly not the majority) and I intend to get out into the woods much more as the years go by moving forward

These tires are excellent. I have spent a few hundred hours researching this topic, and I would require some substantial proof to tell me that this tire is not the best available for the Maverick.

I've been towing a snowmobile trailer for about half of the 300 miles I put on the tires so far, so that's going to skew some of the #s a bit. But from what I've seen otherwise, I'd argue it's the same, if not, even just slightly better given the larger circumference. But a marginal MPG bump, like 1 or 2.

I have 6200 miles on my Scorpions, and they're as quiet as they were new. I've rotated them once at 5K miles. I always cross front to back.

I totally agree, these tires should have been OEM spec! I don't do any crazy off-roading either but really just need something that can handle good on the snow.
