last month I changed air filter on 22 2.0 lariat maverick from stock air filter to a regular k and n. No after market intake. Just stock to k and n. Now I have a sound of the turbo spooling up when I accelerate. Any ideas or just what happens when you have a clean filter?

K&N filters are not a good option for modern vehicles. You'll get no increase in horsepower/torque, and can even harm the sensors.
Not to mention how much more dust and crap they allow into the engine.

That’s only cause most people do a half assed job cleaning them and then over-oil them. Been using drop-ins and cones for years, never a problem, even sensors, unless Mavs eco’s are totally different?

On my escape I always noticed the turbo was louder in colder temps. Did temp drop recently? Also make sure air intake connected. Mine got really loud one time and I noticed the intake fell off and it was sucking air after the filter which is a big no no.

Welp I have always put kn filter on all my cars. As far as half assed it’s two clips to put back even an idiot could do it. But I guess there are some people who can’t do anything like changing a filter by them selves any more.
I also don’t care about increase in horse power or torque. It gets muddy and dusty in the Everglades when I go every weekend. Last filter when I took out and tapped on ground the amount of dust that clogged its was crazy.

I’m in Fort Lauderdale area. Lowest temp is usually high 50s for a day or two. 30-40 out in everglades

I meant a half assed job at cleaning and re-oiling them, inserting them with the few clips is the easiest part. 😳

The K&N gauze filter media is made of super lightweight gauze fibers.
That’s how they pass more air with less suction than a stock filter. That's why it needs oil. You can hear more noise through it.
Your vehicle decides how much air it needs and maintains the proper air/fuel mixture.
If the K&N passes twice the air volume or more velocity due to its free flow design your fuel system simply throttles back first with the air gate.
The drop in K&N filter alone serves no purpose but to get some money out of your wallet.
You’d have to re tune your fuel air system to get any benefit from the K&N

pretty sure it's just less effective at blocking the sound. Old ears like mine don't hear turbo spooling any more.

If your stock filter gets real dirty real fast buy three filters at a time and keep a clean one under the back seat.

I kind of agree with you cause all the vehicles I’ve owned said to reset computer after installing, which then was disconnecting negative battery post overnight, I’m sure newer autos (24 EcoBoost) is very different. Had a K&N FIPK (fuel injection performance kit) cone on my 318 Dodge and could tell a difference. Got a K&N for my Mav, haven’t installed it yet (too cold) now you’ve got me wondering, thanks 😩
