Good evening Maverick friends. So a new tidbit that I haven’t really seen discussed yet is that the new redesigned 2.0 engine has changed filters. The new filter is FL-2127. For those who may be interested, an FL-500S also fits but is larger. This doesn’t really add much in terms of performance but many people like to use a larger sized filter when they can and it shouldn’t be a negative.

Just wanted to share that little bit of info since the new Maverick model is starting to finally get to people. I know some people like to stock up on things before taking delivery in anticipation and wanted to make sure information was presented early enough.

Thank you for this information. Can you confirm that this new engine, with a GPF installed, will still have 250 HP?

I do not do SAE ratings so I can’t confirm any losses due to the GPF however I don’t believe it should impact anything.

Well don’t hold me to it lol. I don’t have any real data with them to know for certain. The principles of their operation would dictate the chance of power loss however it seems like that could be recovered with crafty calibrations. It may still be up in the air so we will all be finding out together.

make sure that the pressure relief valve is the same pressure it may fit but may not be the best way to go

The Motorcraft FL-2127 and FL-500S have different pressure relief (bypass) valve settings, designed for different engine requirements. The FL-2127 is designed for newer 2.3L/2.0L EcoBoost engines (2023+), while the FL-500S is for older, broader applications. [1, 2]
Pressure Relief Setting Comparison:
  • FL-2127: Features a lower bypass valve pressure rating, generally reported around 11-14 PSI.
  • FL-500S: Features a higher bypass valve pressure rating, generally reported around 16-20 PSI. [1]

Key Differences and Compatibility
  • Threads and Fit: While they have similar physical dimensions, the FL-2127 often has a wider threaded opening (22x1.5mm) than older Ford filters to fit updated engine oil pans.
  • Purpose: The FL-2127 is often considered a high-performance or specific application filter for the newer 5.0L and 2.3L engines.
  • Interchangeability: While some users report using the FL-500S in place of the FL-2127, it is not recommended due to the differences in bypass pressure and thread size.
  • Lifter Tick: Using the FL-500S (higher PSI) on an engine designed for the FL-2127 (lower PSI) might cause lifter tick on cold starts, according to some owner experiences. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Note: The FL-2127 is specifically requested for the 2025 Bronco and Maverick 2.3L/2.0L engines. [1, 2]

God I hate people who just blast AI

A lot of aftermarket equivalents for the FL-2127 have a 22 PSI bypass pressure target, some like Fram have it at 15 PSI. It’s a win win because I genuinely would rather avoid it going into bypass early.

" The FL-2127 is designed for newer 2.3L/2.0L EcoBoost engines (2023+) " Typo??

A FL-2127 will not fit a 2023 EB 2.0. in the Maverick.

A FL-2127 will not fit a 2023 EB 2.0. in the Maverick.
The newer 2.3L/2.0L EcoBoost engines (2023+) are used in other Fords
Your correct the FL-2127 is not for the 2023 2.0L in the Maverick
