Submitted oil sample after ~3,000 miles on lube oil after 1st oil change at 977 miles. Truck currently has 4,7xx miles.

“This engine's on the right track. Copper and silicon are lower this time, which is what we should
be seeing as break-in material washes out. We suspect those two elements will improve further, with
another oil change or two. The other metals (aluminum and iron being the major ones) started out looking
good, and remain that way. The viscosity was a little low again, which isn't a concern, especially since fuel
dilution isn't the reason for the thinner oil. No coolant was found either, and low insolubles show the oil filter
worked well. So far, so good for your Mav!”

The viscosity bothers me, being its Motorcraft oil, the blend stuff. Planning another oil change, 2nd one up, and probably go with blend oil again for next 3,000 miles, do another sample, then switch to full synthetic oil IF sample reveals improved metal wear numbers. Want to see cylinders/rings wear turn “slick”, wall glaze formed.

It does seem that if you spend the money on oil analysis, you could afford full synthetic?

Curious, I have seen dozens of these kinds of reports on this site; has anyone ever gotten a "bad" report?? Just wondering???😉

Enjoy your Mav!!!

I haven't seen a bad report, but I have seen some folks post comments from Blackstone where they did provide some good advice or suggestion to change something slightly. Sometimes it was clear that Blackstone was trying to address a question or concern the customer brought up. Sometimes it was unsolicited advice about how the customer could probably go an extra xxx miles between oil changes, etc...

They also have a page on their website where they have published a report from (I think) each of their employees personal vehicles. Sort of a "get to know the staff" thing. It is fun to browse thru those, since many of them are not Maverick (I don't think any are), and some are from some real "beater" vehicles when it comes to age and mileage.

Also this is interesting: https://www.blackstone-labs.com/interesting-reports/

I’ve gotten email from them regarding some results. Yep, bad reports.

I usually get samples/reports on my new vehicles, generally up to 6-8k miles. That to get info on engine wear. Then after that just do oil changes as needed.

The very 1st oil change since new using blend Motorcraft. The manual approves the use of blend oil. I decided blend till more mileage on the engine, and sampled. Now got 2nd sample results, intend to switch to synthetic at next oil change.

i ordered additional sample kits and when truck run under the synthetic a few mikes, will do 3rd sample to see these results with synthetic. And that probably will be it.

I also got an email from Blackstone today announcing a price increase on their tests.
I bought a bulk test pack for this very reason.

Why are you using a blend? I thought full synthetic is best
Many reasons,
You get a faster break in with a blend.
Full syn is as slick as a babies behind.
I go full syn at 5,000 miles.

Roach oil is made up of many different sized oil molecules.
Engineered oil is built with all the molecules made very small and the same size,
A big molecule next to a few smaller ones leaves spaces.
If all the molecules are small they fit closely together.
Thus means you have more oil between the bearing surfaces among other things.
Hence better heat transfer. Thus helps the oil additive package last longer and work better.

Your result comments are the same as mine on my second oil change at 4347 miles. Copper and silicon was a bit high (18 and 52 ppm respectively), other wear metals in line or lower than universal averages, trace fuel and slightly low viscosity. My first oil change was Pennzoil Platinum at 757 miles. That first change had double the copper and silicon in suspension of the second.

I don't think you have anything to be concerned about, nor do you need to wait to switch to "full synthetic". Mine is as oil tight as any engine I've owned, with no signs of abnormal blowby. If your iron count is normal, your rings and cylinder walls have already mated well.

Thanks for info, and the comparisons of samples. Having 3,000 miles on the current oil, and a sample results, I plan to roll a few more miles before an oil change, and do switch to synthetic.

After the switch to synthetic, will put approx 1,000 miles on it, pull a sample and see how well it goes. It is easy for me to suck oil topside from the dipstick tube.

True, but let's keep in mind that Group-IV (PAO) base stock oils are engineered oils usually described as "100% synthetic". Group-III base oils that are usually described as "full synthetic" are highly-refined "roach oils" or "dino oils", at least in the US.

Does the truck come with full synthetic from factory? For break in reasons I mean
