Remove Wireless Charger 2023 Lariat

My wireless charging pad does not charge my phone at all. It just gets the phone really hot. I recently got a cheap wireless CarPlay adapter and would like to be able to charge my phone on the wireless pad, but the factory pad is of no use.

I’m going to buy a aftermarket pad that will sit on top of the factory location, but I don’t want to do any damage to anything having two charging pads there Just in case the factory somehow tries to charge at the same time. Is there a way to disconnect the power for the factory charger or just remove the pad altogether? I’ve done a few searches here and elsewhere, and I’m not found any answers to that question. If it is as easy as removing the power, Would I be able to plug a wireless charger into that same power source assuming it’s just USB or something?

I believe you can lift the mat in your console cubby and there should be a door you can pry open. Your wireless pad should be under it and I believe has a USB connection to the charger.

when I lift the mat I see the charger, but it doesn’t budge when I try to pry it out. I’ve opened that little door and there’s a connector in there but I was hesitant to disconnect it just in case it was important lol

That should be the connector for the charger, removing it should just remove power to it.

I believe the connector for the wireless charging pad is perpendicular to it on the bottom and that it's screwed into the center console.

See if you can pull a fuse.

The connector is proprietary and will not work with anything you buy in the aftermarket.

Ah gotcha on the power and fuse.

I’ve tried the wireless charger (dozens of times) with an iPhone 11 and iPhone 16 pro max with no cases and the mat removed. No wireless CarPlay, gps or anything and still BARELY charge if not lose battery and the phones always get super hot.

I didn't know how complicated the wireless charger is. My Escape has one.
I didn't know how to say "Qi" either.

Wireless Accessory Charging Module (WACM) - System Operation and Component Description

System Logic
The WACM directly sends a charge status message over the HS-CAN3 to the APIM.
The signal the APIM receives from the WACM includes information about the state of the WACM:
• ChargingNotInProgress
• ChargingInProgress
• Metal ObjectDetected
These are used for the center display messages.

Component Description

Body Control Module (BCM)
The WACM uses the BCM for many functions.
One function is to provide the WACM with signals it uses to determine when to enable charging.
For example, Ignition_Status and Delay Accy are used to enable wireless charging as a controller of the charge request.
Another function of the BCM is to tell the WACM when an interior key fob search is about to take place.
The BCM utilizes a FET to short the line the WACM receives from the BCM to vehicle battery.
When this occurs, the WACM disables the charging function to ensure it does not interfere with key fob searches.

Wireless Accessory Charging Module (WACM)
The WACM inductively charges a single Qi (pronounced “chee”) compatible mobile device at rates of power of up to 5 Watts.
Not all phones or devices charge at 5 watts.
A customer should check with their phone manufacturer to determine if it supports Qi wireless charging.
Not all phones are compatible with wireless charging.
Some device cases or accessories (i.e. pop socket) may prevent or degrade wireless charging performance.
It may be necessary for the customer to remove their device from its case.

The WACM is powered at all times (PAAT), receiving power directly from the vehicle’s battery.

The WACM receives signals from the BCM ( CAN signals and a hardwire) to indicate when an interior key search is performed, which the WACM responds by disabling charge briefly, charging resumes after the event ends.
The hardwire is a controlled FET that shorts to battery before & during the key search.

The WACM also receives signals from the radio, which allow it to know when to shift frequency to avoid interfering with the AM radio.

The WACM sends signals to Sync to display charging status updates to the users (wireless charger active, foreign/metal object detected, etc).

The WACM features foreign object detection that can detect when metal objects are placed between the device and the charging surface.
When this is detected, the center display will display a message until the condition is corrected.

WACM (Wireless Accessory Charging Module)
The WACM is a 5 watt wireless power transmitter used to inductively charge a single Qi (chee) compatible mobile device.
The WACM requires PMI when it is replaced.

Overview
The WACM is a 5 Watt wireless power transmitter certified under the Wireless Power Consortium's Qi (pronounced “Chee") Standard.
The WACM can be used to energize the secondary receiver coil equipped in one Qi compatible device (smart phone, wireless earbuds case, etc.) thereby charging the device wirelessly. A list of Qi compatible devices can be found on the WPCs website:

The WACM is a powered at all time node from fused battery and performs network management on HS-CAN3.
Wireless charging status is provided as a CAN signal on the HS-CAN3.
The BCM provides a protected switch to battery input to the WACM when an interior passive key search is in progress to disable the wireless charging feature.
This is to prevent possible interference with the passive key when placed in close proximity to the WACM during the charge session of a secondary device.
A redundant CAN signal is also sent by the BCM in addition to the protected switch to battery input.
