Ford is not going to fix wireless charging overheating, specifically because they don’t need to fix it.
Also considering Ford is removing the charging pad from vehicles tells me they have no desire to deal with the tech any more.

Yep my surface charger in my Mav was IMO absolutely useless.
I refuse to heat up my battery in my $800 IPhone 16 pro.
Talked to the phone tech. He said simply,
Surface charging with your phone in a protective case, any case is bad news.
Out of the case is still a heat issue.
My pelican carbon fiber case stays on.
Surface charging is super inefficient.

We seldom use the charging pad. Only time is if my phone is plugged in and wife needs hers charged.

I grew tired of dropping my iPhone onto the charging pad in my Lariat only to discover it moved and lost the charging sweet spot. I took an EV foam mat and laser cut a filler. Now my phone locks into place and holds the phone in position for charging.

Ford is not going to fix wireless charging overheating, specifically because they don’t need to fix it.

Wireless overheating is common in every car that doesn’t have actively cooled wireless charging pads.

The only cars that have active cooling for their wireless charging cradles are the luxury brands.

Most people are already crying about the Maverick costing too much. Ford has to pick and choose its price battles. And this is one battle that Ford has ignored for years across multiple model lines, not just mavericks.

In the meantime, try turning on your ac and setting it to cool under the dash. This actually works.

Personally, if I want to do a 10-100% charge in the car, I just plug it in because it charges 5x as fast with zero overheating.

Thats just the physics of inductive charging, especially with a pad that is designed to accept multiple generations, multiple sizes and multiple brands of phones.
Additionally, Ford is removing wireless charging in the 2026’s and I believe the @fordvideoguy said they’re actually going to remove it from all vehicles Moving forward.

Hmmmmm??? Does it have its own fuze? If you leave something metallic (coins??? or ?) does it keep the charger active for x minutes after truck is turned off???

Here's a situation where AI is helpful. I know this is the correct answer and it saves me a lot of time to copy and paste the answer, rather than try to explain it from scratch:

Wireless chargers are designed with safety features called Foreign Object Detection (FOD) that prevent them from transferring significant power to metal objects. Without these safeguards, the magnetic field could induce a current in any nearby metal, which would cause the object to heat up.

How Foreign Object Detection works
The charging process starts with a low-power signal and uses a two-way communication protocol to ensure that the device on the pad is a compatible one, not a foreign metal object.
  1. Analog ping: The charger emits a series of low-power "analog pings" to detect if anything has been placed on its surface. A non-compatible metal object will create a small disturbance in the magnetic field, which the charger can sense by monitoring the voltage in its own coil.
  2. Digital communication: If the charger detects a possible device, it sends a more powerful "digital ping". A compatible device with a wireless charging coil and receiver will recognize this signal and respond by sending a packet of data back to the charger, confirming that it is a valid receiver.
  3. Power transfer begins: Once the charger receives a valid response, it begins increasing its power output to start charging the device.
  4. Power monitoring: During the charging session, the charger constantly monitors the power it is sending and compares it to the power the device reports receiving. A significant difference between the two indicates that a foreign object, like a coin or key, has been placed on the pad and is absorbing power.
  5. Shutdown: If the charger detects a power discrepancy or senses a metal object that does not communicate via the protocol, it will immediately shut down or prevent the power transfer from starting.

I have a iPhone 16 and the phone constantly will shift in the cradle on my 2025 lariat. It will randomly stop charging, but when it does charge. The phone will overheat. I kind of gave up on the built in wireless charger.

Anyone else have a heat issue on the charging pad? Mine would get so hot it would go into overheat mode. I tried removing the Otter Box cover and it seems to be much better. That's kind of a pain to do so now on longer trips I just use a USB charging cord plugged into the back port and put the phone in my Weathertech cup holder phone cradle and that works fine.
I'm somewhat old school with an iPhone SE. Maybe the newer ones work better?
Mine gets Hot. Especially if running android auto. My old phone never did that

The wireless phone charger is pretty buggy. From heating up to not workin. I think Ford has pulled the wireless charger from future models for now. It’s a really nice feature when it works. I hope ford figures it out.

The charger on my sister’s 25 lariat hybrid worked well for me on our road trip back in August. The one in my 24 is glitchy like everyone else is saying. Although my new iPhone air seems to work on mine much better. These issues with wireless chargers aren‘t just a Ford problem. The ones in our Hondas were terrible too and I have friends that have the same issues in their GM vehicles.

Ford Maverick Lariat phone charger pad (phone shifting) problem fix IMG_4585

it’s not an automaker problem. It is a wireless technology problem. Even with this magnetic circle that is designed specifically for iPhone and attaches to a precise “mag-safe” location on the back of the phone, it still heats up my iPhone and it still only charges half as fast as plugging into a USB plug.

The induction coils have resistance, which means they are going to heat up like a resistance heater. The only way to make wireless charging as thermally efficient as wired charging is to use superconducting coils. 😂
