So I don’t want to get into what’s already been said on here. I love it and it drives awesome with excellent MPG. I am just going to address as many of the good things, issues, or concerns I’ve read about on this forum during the 268 days I waited from order confirmed to taking delivery of my pickup.

The Trade-In:

*Also added the OEM Maverick all weather mats in front and back — and put in the DeeZee tailgate assist that works well!

Issues/Concerns:
•The driver side taillight gets lots of mud etc sprayed due to the lack of a bottom (or even front) cover — passenger side is fine due to the storage cubby and cover under bottom of bed. Noticed it when changing taillights.

•The tailgate cables cause for an uneven bed/tailgate — I find this to be a concern for obvious reasons, while others on here say they don’t care. Some reasons being (1) that your sheets of plywood etc. will be slanted downward out the back of the bed and (2) if using the tailgate as a bed extension, the weight of longer items (ie. a loveseat) will not be supported by the tailgate — could be more critical with longer FRAGILE items. This issue should be addressed by @FordMotorCompany IMO!

Shows the gap at the front of the bed if the weight of your lumber is resting on the multi-position tailgate — which shows the concern of a load leaning OUT of the back of the truck. Safety hazard if you ask me, no matter how many tie downs you use.

This shows how much slack is in the cables if the tailgate is lifted to be level with the bed

*I also need to figure out a solution to prevent water leaking into the bed from each corner of the tailgate.

great info and pics. sure is good looking. Looks like nothing a few DIY fixes to fix some of the concerns that one shouldn't really have to do but no big deal. That thing with no road spray/splash guard on the drivers side up into the tail light area would annoy me some.

Forgive me, but I thought Lariat had wireless CarPlay. Since I am getting a Lariat in a few weeks, do I need that dongle too?

Unfortunately, none of the trim levels have Wireless Carplay. You'll need a dongle. I personally have the CPlay2Air adapter, but there are quite a few to choose from.

Thank you. Will order before my 1,500 mile drive home once I get the truck next month.

If I may make a suggestion for the CarPlay adapter, try these. They really help hide the cables. 🙂

This first pic is mine.

Ah yes! I think I remember seeing you post this awhile back. I saved (bookmarked) a bunch of posts on here but don’t know how to actually view the ones I bookmarked haha may have to pick one of those up if my cable starts to bother my OCD

You do realize there is a third position for the tail gate. Tuck the tailgate cable behind the original location will give it an up tilt.

If only had the truck would take a picture. The sales person showed me at the dealership back in October how to do it. Unhook from the bed, loop the cable behind the original pin and then attach the end to the upper position. Assume you could just lift up the tailgate to loop behind the original pin location.

What are these wires for?
The wires are a right-angle usb extension cable. They sell them in pairs so can choose the one that either faces up or down, depending on the orientation you want to have. This way the cable doesn't stick straight out of the USB port and instead gets tucked underneath more cleanly. Then you connect the wireless Carplay dongle to it.

How is the CarPlay adapter? I plan to get that one or the CPLAY2Air once my truck comes in. I’m curious which is more stable and quick to connect. Truck looks awesome. Pretty much how mine will look except I opted for Non-Lux. The non-Lux has two storage cubbies in back correct?

Mine was a 3/5 starts in my previous car. But so far on the Maverick I’ve had 0 issues but I haven’t taken longer than a 20min drive yet. Will be making a 3hr drive this week to see if it doesn’t disconnect etc like my previous car. Wife has same one and works pretty consistently for her. My friend got one and stopped using his because his had too many bugs with his Accord hybrid.

Yes I’ve seen the 3rd position on a YouTube video. Don’t think that would be a resolution to any of the issues I pointed out though. I’ll try to remember to test that position tmrw to see what the result is in terms of long items.
