So I don’t want to get into what’s already been said on here. I love it and it drives awesome with excellent MPG. I am just going to address as many of the good things, issues, or concerns I’ve read about on this forum during the 268 days I waited from order confirmed to taking delivery of my pickup.
The Trade-In:
Quick & Easy Mods:
LED 3rd brake/cargo (Lasfit) & reverse lights (Alla) — only the cargo lights pictured; also can see the 2” stubby antenna I used to replace the original ‘remote control’ one
Wireless Apple CarPlay with Carlinkit 3.0 — 3M Velcro to plastic cubby
WeatherTech BumpStep — used a Herlich push-to-lock hitch pin sprayed with Sta-Bil
Wood bed divider (2x8 + 2x4) and scrap plywood to show possibility of shelving
*Also added the OEM Maverick all weather mats in front and back — and put in the DeeZee tailgate assist that works well!
Utility:
Infant rear facing car seat fits good behind my 5’1” wife’s seat
Three sets of golf clubs fit with plenty of room to spare
Two 30oz tumblers fit fine in the front cupholders
A bottle does exist that fits in the door — although I will not utilize this feature lol
How 8ft long 2x4 fits in the back
Issues/Concerns:
•The driver side taillight gets lots of mud etc sprayed due to the lack of a bottom (or even front) cover — passenger side is fine due to the storage cubby and cover under bottom of bed. Noticed it when changing taillights.
Driver side
Passenger side
•The tailgate cables cause for an uneven bed/tailgate — I find this to be a concern for obvious reasons, while others on here say they don’t care. Some reasons being (1) that your sheets of plywood etc. will be slanted downward out the back of the bed and (2) if using the tailgate as a bed extension, the weight of longer items (ie. a loveseat) will not be supported by the tailgate — could be more critical with longer FRAGILE items. This issue should be addressed by @FordMotorCompany IMO!
Shows the gap at the tailgate end if your lumber was level with the wheel wells (like it should be!)
Shows the gap at the front of the bed if the weight of your lumber is resting on the multi-position tailgate — which shows the concern of a load leaning OUT of the back of the truck. Safety hazard if you ask me, no matter how many tie downs you use.
This shows how much slack is in the cables if the tailgate is lifted to be level with the bed
*I also need to figure out a solution to prevent water leaking into the bed from each corner of the tailgate.
Best MPG for fun:
My best trip I was able to pull off on a quick food run
Side note: Regenerative braking DOES work while using ACC
