My guess
All electric…must have AWD option
They will doll it up a bit
Maybe make it a little bigger, if they have an applicable platform and raise it an inch or two.
To be honest, I love mine and they don’t have to make any drastic changes for me to get another one

tldr:
The author wonders if the Maverick will remain popular, be displaced by other rumored small trucks, or die and leave a market gap. There's no new info here.

That was my thought too - check out the specs for their electric crate motor, a perfect fit for the Maverick:

The obvious:
  • AWD hybrid
  • PHEV version (probably FWD only since that's how the Escape comes)
  • A Timberline/Rattler/Tremor/some light "off-road" version
Potential:
  • Maverick Lightning EV
  • Maverick ST w/ sportier tuned 2.0 EcoBoost
  • PHEV AWD

Was that an article? It seemed like a long question or discussion opener to me. If I type more paragraphs citing that Jalopnik, the writer, the editor all thought it was enough to be an article, and added the numbers and popularity of the site would this post then be an article? Honestly it sounds like exactly the same format that I would write in for my 8th grade advanced language arts class.

How much was this writer paid for this? Could I have a job? Easy money if its more than lunch.

Want to kill the targeted focus group?

> Get bigger (like the Tacoma, Ranger, etc .... remember when they FIRST came out?)
> Add more electronics = More Expensive
> Go full electric = Much More Expensive
> Higher End Off-Road Packages = Already More Expensive (wanted to mention this one just bcuz)

Oh well, we can all dream.

Knowing Ford's typical product lifecycle, the Maverick on this platform will be around for about 10 years. It'll get the usual restyle inside and out at maybe the 5 year mark, and powertrain and option upgrades.

Ford may decide that the contortions they went through to hit the $20k base price are too restrictive to maintain, and develop a different entry level vehicle.

It's Jalopnik. Their writers just word vomit and post. It's questionable how much some of their writers even know about cars.

Probably price increases are what’s next. But more importantly, I think the $19,995 MSRP was the catalyst for strong sales, even for those willing to spend just a little more for something nicer (like an XLT or Lariat). I’m actually surprised the $19,995 XL Hybrid exists and people are driving them now, I honestly had expected Ford to make about 50 of them and make everyone else buy a Lariat AWD FX4.

The fact that the dashboard indicates a future screen size upgrade is enough to suggest that base hybrid won’t last long and the Mav will soon move upscale and start at 25k and go all the way to 40k. Ford probably can’t get away with matching the base price of a Ranger, but I suspect they’ll get close in the next model year or two.

Went into the article expecting some good stuff and points. Left the article realizing I will never get back that 2 minutes I wasted reading it. I don't know why I keep giving Jalopnik clicks.

Agreed. The "article" was little more than the author typing out his random thoughts.
