I think this is a first on here?

I recently had the Maverick JL Stealthbox professionally installed with a JL Amp and line out converter (LC2i). I paid the standard retail of $799 for it.

It sounds very good; very clean and tight (as expected from JL). The non-premium speakers in the Maverick are BAD so this really helps the audio by removing the base from the factory speakers. Although I still might change out the mids and highs at a later date because the sound still gets "crunchy" with certain songs.

I am a child of the 80s/90s and, unfortunately, this setup does not pass the Beastie Boys test. I have had a LOT of subs/systems throughout the years and I always play Paul Reverie to judge a subs ability. If you can really hear/ feel the (extremely) low bass from that song then it "passes" ;).

The caveat being, I'm pretty sure none of the readily available boxes on the market would "pass" either. To really get deep, low bass in a Maverick you would need a large, custom built, ported box. I only mention this to set expectations for subs in the under seat area. And, it's not to say my setup isn't very nice; it is. But it's also limited in the type of volume/depth it can produce. I knew that going in so I'm not disappointed.

Final thoughts; is it worth it, no. It is overpriced (but not by a lot). I have no point of comparison but I suspect it sounds as good as any of the other pre-made box/sub configurations out there. But it cost more..... In it's favor it looks good and is extremely clean. The fit and finish is second to none. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Thanks for the review. I was going to Make my own speaker box since I saw this design. My only concern is the factory battery is garbage. So I would have to upgrade that. Also I love the storage under the rear seats.

I have to wonder how much internal volume it has inside. Id think you'd get a better sound if they didnt add that storage pocket to it.

Nice write up and install. While I agree it's way overpriced for what it is. You're mainly paying for the convenience & that it's a quality JL product that not only includes a sub but a box as well that fits under the rear seat storage and doesn't look like an eye sore. It looks OEM and made of quality.

That said for the price doing it yourself could you make something that sounded three times better absolutely, Will it look as good that depends on your skill and craftsmanship obviously. I've seen many DIY installs that turned out great with great looking results while others sound good but look like a 3-year-old put it together.

In my opinion for the price it should include a amp but sadly that's not an option for this.

If you didn't go into Forscan and set the factory EQ to Flat, then you're likely missing out on a lot of the JL sub's capability. Without the Forscan change, all bass below 35-40hz is not going to be present in the signal your amp/sub are seeing. If you haven't done that, doing it will make you feel like you added another sub again :D

to OP- how is rattling after install?

doesn’t it come with a separate knob to adjust the sub? where did you install that?

any installation issues?

is this hard to do if I nothing about Forscan?

It does not include a bass knob, that would be dependent on the amplifier purchased to power the JL.

It isn't hard at all. The Flat EQ setting is in the "easy" setting mode of Forscan, so you literally just click on the Flat EQ setting. All you need is a $50 cable(if you get a good one recommended by Forscan). The software itself is free for a short term license, or you can buy a long term license. Most people don't, since you can renew the short term as many times as you like. There are tons of videos on using Forscan on youtube. I only got into Forscan myself, just to set the factory EQ to flat. It made a huge difference, and is a must do on any sub install :)

thanks 👍. I just might take a shot at this. I know pricey but kind of interested in the stealthbox. I don’t use the storage anyway

If you're willing to spend $800 on the sub and box I personally would go with a 10-in ground shaker box you can get them for either side of the storage cubbies under the rear seat for 225 a piece on ground shakers website. If you have the hybrid you'll need to get the driver side box obviously. And then get a much better JL 10TW1 sub or Hertz MPS 250, you still come in just under the price of the stealth box (75.00 less), but you get a much better quality subwoofer (and deeper bass output from a small box) for your money.

You'll still need to purchase a separate amp regardless of which route you decide go.

So I'm not saying your wrong (because I don't have the technical knowledge about the subject) but, in my experience, having a Line Out Converter has made your suggestion unnecessary.

Case in point; my Maverick is only 1 month old. I traded in a 2023 Trailblazer for it. In that small SUV I had this:
Ford Maverick JL Stealthbox Install / Review 20241026_152323

https://www.jlaudio.com/collections...3-car-audio-h-o-wedge-subwoofer-systems-93136

Same Amp and same LOC. It was (is) a beast. Never messed with the factory EQ. Prior to that I had a Fiesta ST with a big ported box, LOC + AMP as well. It also hit very hard and never messed with the factory EQ (Sync 3).

IDK, like I said, I have had a LOT of subs in a LOT of different vehicles. The last 4 have all used the factory radio with an LC2i. The biggest factor seems to be box size/configuration and vehicle interior architecture. Open cabins (hatchback/SUV) with big ported boxes have ALWAYS hit harder. The old performance saying seems to translate pretty well, there is no replacement for displacement.

You are just limited in what you can get from an under seat sub in a Maverick unless you are willing to start removing/fabricating something extreme.

$15 eBay cable worked for me

You're not wrong but the AudioControl LC2i really helps with the low bass cut-off. I'm not sure how it does the magic that it does but it's a good line-out converter if someone doesn't want to get into forscan.

I'll give JL credit where due, the box looks fantastic and I understand why they kept the pocket but that little pocket is killing the ability to get down low, it's probably halved the box's volume.

If JL sold these bare for about $250-300 without a sub I'd buy one and modify it to remove that pocket, I'd guess you could get close to 0.75 cubic feet doing that.
I've got a really nice Alpine sub that works great in small volumes and my DIY box fits and looks ok but this is CLEAN.
