I found the truck to be very noisy at 65+ mph and a 15 mph crosswind. The noise was so loud I had to use foam ear plugs to listen to the radio. My previous car was a Transit Connect with a lot more windows and it was a lot quieter. I like the truck, it rides nice and is comfortable and gets great gas mileage. The road noise is not excessive and the engine noise is not a problem but the wind is amazingly loud.

Hi Dale! I can look into your maverick's noise concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your maverick's VIN?

My experience: 22 EB Lariat and 24 hybrid Lariat. I don't drive over 70mph very often. Both are acceptably quiet to me at highway speeds. I think the laminated windshield helps. That and the Michelin A/S tires. I was willing to pay $10k more than an XL for that plus the other ammenities.

If I had an XL or XLT and needed to replace my windshield, I would specify the laminated version.

I looked at some early production XL's. They did not have the black foam sound deadener in the front fender just ahead of the door hinges. I think that may help.

I do not hear wind noise around my door seals or windows. They seal well. I will speculate that the side mirrors which do not appear to be very aerodynamic generate noise exponentially as vehicle speed increases above 65mph.

I pilot different Cessna 172's owned by a flying club. Each has a different sound; wind, engine etc. at any given speed. I try to find that speed to better enjoy the journey. I tend to drive that way too. Stay legal and stay safe.
I'm with you on the mirrors, I have put duct tape over the square channels on the inside of the mirrors and this makes a difference
. The channels are like air whistles with low frequency sound.

Mirrors = there is an opportunity for a clever person to design and market an aerodynamic mirror for Mavs or a more clever person to design a clip-on cone or spoiler for the existing mirrors. The spoiler would be for the top and only needs to be 3/8-1/2" tall.

I have experience with redesigned mirrors on my 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser. 01-04 PTC's had a flat mirror. In 05, Diamler-Chrysler redesigned the mirror with a spoiler. It made a difference.

The mirrors were interchangeable as far as fit so the part could have superseed the original but they inexplicably rewired the electric motor so up was in, down was up, etc. instead of making it plug and play. I rewired mine. That may be why Chrysler is in the state it is in.

I have an XL and you're correct, the foam sound insulation is missing from that area. I stuffed refrigerant line insulation in those openings and also stick-on high density foam insulating sheets under & behind the back seat. And Dynamat in the front doors. The cumulative effect of these improvements made a big difference in reducing wind & road noise. The doors also sound a lot more solid when you close them.
