I think that people don't understand electricity and how much work can be accomplished with units in watts or kilowatts. The hybrid battery is TINY so it is only meant to be an aid and jump in when conditions are right... And only briefly. If you watch it you will start to figure out how to trigger it into electric mode, and how to play the MPG game. Many of the skills you learn here on the hybrid work very well in EVs as well.

Don't always believe what your truck says you are getting, the truck said I was getting 42 mpg but when I filled up, the amount miles I drove divided by gas I used was 38 mpg.
You can adjust that. (Search "Engineering mode" in the forum. I did and mine is crazy accurate.
Also FWIW I almost always get 40 + mpg on the freeway, 65 mph, cruise on, no HVAC, some elevation gain loss. (More than that if it's mostly downhill, say Vegas to San Diego.)(And 75 drops it 3&5 mpg.)
I do get *slightly* better around town if I try, especially if the temperature is 75° or so.

Have you recorded how much the generator puts out to send to the TM to power the wheels in series hybrid mode? (Aka "locomotive mode")

I have a ScanGauge and can look at it in real time but cannot record data to later graph.
I'll have to find those PID's, not part of my normal logging. Got DCDCConv Amps Hi & Lo, but I've wondered if I've seen that GM to TM goes thru that totally, or bypasses it.

Torque values during an acceleration in Sport mode don't really tell much of a story, but probably the closest I have to a hill tow.
Here's a snippet with highest TM values.
Go pedal just 12%
HVB was being charged because negative values.
TM putting out 60 ft/lbs.
ICE putting out 98.9.
Pretty slow ICE & TM RPM, due to slow 7.5 mph speed.

So about the only thing to see here is the TM putting out 60 ft/lbs torque, while the HVB is being charged - so TM power is not coming from the HVB.

HVB charging rate eventually started declining and finally switched to supply about 27 mph and 23% Go pedal.

I stopped the effort at 51% go pedal & 67 mph. HVB discharge rate kept increasing a bit, as did RPM's and gearing.

Also be aware if the truck was on slightly slanted ground for that 1 fillup - you could easily get an extra gallon in with normal gas-shutoff clicks.
Combined with opposite slant last time getting less than level fillup.
You can vary a bit.
Don't make the adjustments until you got several fillups in that truck belly.

But it's a pretty safe bet the computer is 5% generous from the factory. 99 of 100 users find it is.
Many of us update that though, using Engineering Test Mode. (Search the forums, there are multiple threads on it.) I adjusted mine (it took like 2 minutes total) and it is now almost always with 0.2 mpg calculated vs. displayed.

The fact that the Maverick will pull a reasonable tow load and when not towing provide an exceptional people moving economy is awesome. The TFL Truck episode of the '25 Maverick hybrid pulling up grade towards the Eisenhower tunnel is impressive.

So love this vehicle overall. I have the FWD hybrid and it suits me fine (for now). The beefed up ECVT on the '25+ is tempting.
