I think the designs were locked in about 2 years ago in the multi-year development effort, and that would have been long before the chip shortages or COVID shutdowns had any impact on manufacturing.
No way. There's a video Ford marketing produced from early on where a Sync 4 screen is in the dash. They've clearly adjusted things to side step chip shortages - 8" base headunit and lariat Sync 3 screen with cubbies instead of the 12" Sync 4 screen is the most obvious one

While the hybrid will have more issues probably, I’d suspect that will be the first produced as that is what Ford is banking off of that this truck has 40MPG and is decently priced. I’d see First Editions being built first (obviously since it is a first edition 😂), then Lariat maybe with the XLT at the same time, then do XL. Then again, the Bronco has had such a weird way of the order in which they were built, so we won’t know until they start to roll off the line!
How did the bronco roll off? Or the bronco sport for that matter? That'd be a good indication of how the Maverick will probably go.

First edition wasn't first off the line
Everything came out as a mix afaik
Makes sense to me, means logistics probably had more to do with it than marketing and everything else people in the thread are hypothesizing.

100%

Ford needs to keep the factory running and cranking out trucks to be profitable. If they can only build XLs, you'll see that. Got a bunch of Alto Blue paint and no supply constraints? Alto Blue in every trim all day long.

I hope they build my truck early so I get it early. So I agree with @Dancebuff - build the Cyber Orange Lariat Lux trucks first
I'm sure they'll get around to building both Of the cyber orange lariat lux truck orders at some point 🤣

I think all the speculation about lower trims being built first and ecoboost engines going first, etc., is just wishful thinking. The chip shortage isn't about random, unpredictable shortages. Chip production is a multi-month process with long lead times that is pretty predictable. The problem is that the carmakers didn't reserve their place in line a year ago while gadget makers did, so now they aren't getting as many chips as they want of the kind they want. The current chip production levels are pretty steady and predictable, but there is finite capacity and they just have to wait their turn.

So I think it is a mistake to think that Ford doesn't know what they will be getting in a month when production begins. All that planning took place long ago and they would already be warning about late availability if chip shortages were going to lead to production delays. They were caught by surprise with the rebound in demand several months ago. They would have to be pretty incompetent to be caught by surprise by the planned production rollout in August. Random events can still happen, but I'm pretty sure Ford has detailed plans about what parts they will have and when for the coming months.

I think the logic is the strip down XL will require fewer chips, b/c there are fewer options and gadgets.

This is pure speculation, but I am guessing a lack of cruise control, co-pilot360, and a luxury package, means base-XL's probably require a handful fewer chips? Therefore, Ford can get get (pulling #'s outta my arse) 13 XL's to market for every 10 XLT's, and maybe 15 XL for every 10 XLT Lux?
My guess is they probably have chips that are the same, but programmed differently. People have been adding cruise to the Ranger by adding buttons and reflashing the BCM. The chip is still there, just not programmed for cruise.

Again guys, I was just trying to be sarcastic. No logic at all.
