jzielbauer mentioned that the tonneau cover he's using is made up of aluminum panels covered in polyurethane. Wouldn't that roughly 1.5' x 4' aluminum panel provide adequate ground plane for the antenna? Not trying to be a smart ass – genuinely curious...That won’t provide and adequate ground plane for your antenna. You need to put that the mag mount on the body of the truck somewhere or do a hard mount. Otherwise the antenna won’t be effective and will likely have a high swr.
[Update - just finished reading elsewhere in the thread where Big Kahuna stated that ALL magnetic mounts have inadequate ground plane due to lack of true "grounding"... So in the immortal words of Roseanne Roseanadana, "Never mind..."]
