I've taken to driving with the music off and listening to the car.

I wouldn't say I have any problems specificly, I did notice a noise in the dash sometimes which I imagine is just something that is better to live with.

The other thing I've been noticing is that when slow and coming to a stop, there is a sound sort of metallic, almost like an aluminum can - and I have no idea what that is

We hope your dealer will jump right on it and take care of those problems!
Hope so as well. Will most likely have to bring it in earlier as I still have about 6k miles for the first service. It just annoys the crap out of me.

In Reference to @Red Eyes - Wide Shut :
I stand corrected as through more research I have found a common misconception I think most people have assumed, also. Apparently even the Toyota Synergy Atkinson's in their hybrids have also used non-hydraulic "shim-in-bucket" lifters. From what I found, this was not to cheap out, but to be more precise in lifter operation while taking advantage of modern metalergy that will not require normal maintenance during the expected long life of the vehicle. I have not seen anything about valve lifter adjustment related to those NYC taxis' that went so many miles. There is no regular maintenance schedule for either Ford or Toyota on this issue. A problem may be noticed through metal on metal tick accompanied by a rough idle and poor performance.
Remember, on the Maverick hybrid the ICE will only operate about half your miles. Currently, I'm around 4300 out of about 9700 miles.
Ford has been incorporating the 2.5 Atkinson engine for quite some time. I had a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid AWD for 9 years, 95k miles, one minor recall, no problems. Original tires, never rotated, still lots of tread, a great truck. Those early Escape hybrids were ran 300k miles in NYC taxis, not one HVB failure. The Atkinson reliability & HVB life are just a couple reasons I purchased the 25MY Mav Lariet Hybrid. Whether hydraulic or Manual valves, I'm not expecting that to be an issue in the Atkinson Maverick. Very pleased.
