When Two Mavericks Crash

When two equally weighted Mavericks crash head on, each doing 50 mph, it feels like:

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 100 mph

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 50 mph

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 10 mph

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 1000 mph

If Ford builds a Maverick and a half in a year and a half, how many Mavericks can Ford build in 6 years?

Well at least dealer allocations wouldn’t be a constraint in that case :ROFLMAO:

When two equally weighted Mavericks crash head on each doing 50 mph, what would the force of impact feel like? Vote in the poll.
Do not comment until after December 1, 2022. Give people time to vote.

Thanks.

Edit: Thanks to all who participated AND refrained from debating today. I'm ok with having a debate but wanted to postpone it for as long as possible to have the most untainted responses as possible. December 1 was WAY too lofty of a goal. What was I thinking! Unrealistic of me to expect people to wait that long.

Spoiler Alert! Unsolicited answers come in the first few posts. Some of them are even correct!
seems like there is a better chance of seeing a sasquatch

Feels like two sheet metal boxes filled with nuts and bolts colliding at 50 MPH.

As long as people answered the poll before reading the comments, why would it matter if we started discussing immediately? Next time just request no one to read any comments until they answer the poll. That's an easier request than waiting 2 weeks.

Besides, I'm a fifty something year old who can maintain a train of thought for more than 6 seconds, but if I wait 2 weeks, I'm forgetting all about that question and moving on to the next thing. :)

And a word of encouragement to anyone who responds harshly or is responded to harshly (as some may have earlier in this thread)...Proverbs 15:1 says, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."

If someone says something harsh to you, respond kindly, and more often than not you'll see their attitude change for the better.

If you want to have a genuine conversation (not a shouting match), speak civilly to other people, and they'll usually be civil back...usually. :)

OP: creates thread on discussion forum

Everyone: participates in discussion

OP: Why is everyone discussing??!? You fail!!!

Everyone: Well, that's not cool.

OP: Yeah but you're not courteous!

Really baffled by the whole point of this thread and every post OP has made in it...

Ford Maverick When Two Mavericks Crash CCF9214B-C07B-4883-ADD3-0FBEB7AFB9F4

Intuition says:
Two equal cars head-on is worse than hitting an immovable wall.

Science says:
Two equal cars head-on is the same as hitting an immovable wall.

This question tends to be
50/50 given a large enough poll.

Scientists sometimes answer incorrectly. Poets and painters sometimes answer correctly. So it's not really about your education.

It's more about, in the heat of the moment did you go with intuition, or think it through.

This concept, and this "problem" creates much discord, much animosity, many "tooth & nail" arguments in our society. From marriage, to the Senate, to world politics. And yes, car forums.

I could not effectively illustrate this with 4 participants which I why I wanted a poll without debate to start. We now have 126 participants.

So you were trying to conduct a people experiment ignoring much of psychology about people? Very interesting. :) I have NEVER EVER on the internet seen people instructed to "not discuss anything for x amount of time" hold up. By nature we like to argue, often we like to be contrarian just to be contrarian.

I never answered your poll because there isn't a correct answer-
"it feels like" implies the results to the passsengers.

Passengers in a 100mph crash with only 1 crumple zone vs 100mph (combined) with two crumple zones would "feel like" much less of an impact with 2 crumple zones.

Hi. Thanks for joining in.

The main point was, in this case, any oil change thread; any "break in" period thread, any "best tire pressure" thread, a lot of people go by intuition and treat it as fact of nature. It's natural to have instincts about how the natural world works. But if you truly care to take a deeper dive, reality may not match your instincts.

There is a correct answer to the poll.
Are you trusting instinct or science?

Your example is not part of my question at the top. My question did not involve any 100 mph crashes. It involved 2 50 mph crashes with two crumple zones, or 1 50 mph crash with one crumple zone.

P.S. If you'd like to describe one as "one 100 mph crash with two crumple zones, I'm ok with that also."

Your options do list a 100mph crash.
