When Two Mavericks Crash

When two equally weighted Mavericks crash head on, each doing 50 mph, it feels like:

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 100 mph

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 50 mph

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 10 mph

  • Hitting an immovable wall at 1000 mph

When two equally weighted Mavericks crash head on each doing 50 mph, what would the force of impact feel like? Vote in the poll.
Do not comment until after December 1, 2022. Give people time to vote.

Thanks.

Edit: Thanks to all who participated AND refrained from debating today. I'm ok with having a debate but wanted to postpone it for as long as possible to have the most untainted responses as possible. December 1 was WAY too lofty of a goal. What was I thinking! Unrealistic of me to expect people to wait that long.

Spoiler Alert! Unsolicited answers come in the first few posts. Some of them are even correct!

There's nothing to vote on, it's simple physics.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the math on this would be tough to argue with. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for WAITING until December to comment.
You asked people to vote on physics, then to wait weeks to even say anything let alone find out what MythBusters showed years ago. Did you expect people to be anxiously WAITING for your response?

Meanwhile, the results of votes are publicly visible so you could draw conclusions based on that.

Just curious, how bored are you today?

But, to provide the actual answer to what you posed... As MythBusters showed (see above), two identical vehicles meeting head-on at the same speed, each act as if they collided with a stationary, immovable, impenetrable wall.

Why? Because they are both equal objects on equal but opposite trajectories, they both meet in the middle and stop, as if said stationary, immovable, impenetrable wall were in between them. Neither moves past the meeting point.

Both bring in the same kinetic energy (1/2 mv^2). Total kinetic energy: mv^2. Each ends up experiencing the resultant forces of 1/2 mv^2 coming to a rest. The other car is the wall. It's a metaphor! What's a meta phor?

Doesn't matter. The wall is also stationary.
Totally DOES matter. What hurts more- running full speed on your own two feet into a wall of bricks or a wall of bricks with 2 mattresses stood up in front of it?

Cars are indeed not walls.

Neither cars nor walls are mattresses. They're also not pumpkin spice lattes, while you're at it.

That doesn't address the physics problem posed herein.

Each car acts as a stationary, immovable, impenetrable wall to the other. An identical car on an opposite trajectory head-on may as well be said wall in terms of the damage each sustains. Again, see the MythBusters segment.

When two mavericks' crash: two grown men/women can be seen on their knees crying crocodile tears!!!!!   It is indeed a tragic loss to the automotive world, especially if the Mavs are Cactus Gray!!!! Or any color, I guess.....
