I really don't understand the auto-hold. Compared to manual transmissions automatics are already so easy and mindless to drive, is it really too much effort for someone to leave their foot in place after coming to a stop?

Someone help me understand what am I missing that makes this such an essential feature?
Due to life changing injuries cause by a carless driver running a red light and t-boning my mustang 16 years ago, once in a while I get leg cramps while driving in stop and go traffic. I have been know to switch breaking to my left foot while at slow speeds so I can try to relax my other leg and quell the pain. Hopefully having ACC and auto-hold these will be a thing of the past!

I love this feature. Its great in traffic. Also when going through a drive through. Instead of having to hold your foot on the brake, it allows you to rest your foot. Then when your ready to go, just put your foot on the gas and your car will disengage the brake. One way to reduce driver fatigue. I leave it on most of the time.
I am getting used to it. My biggest pet peeve is that it gets in the way while doing a 3-point turn or other low-speed maneuvering like that. Combined with the infinitely-twirly shift knob, it takes muscle memory sortof like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time. I see the value using it in traffic, it will just take time for me. My favorite thing about it is IT REMEMBERS ITS OWN SWITCH SETTING BETWEEN POWER CYCLES. It’s a damn miracle. If only cruise control, A/S/S, and drive modes were the same way…

I have similar feelings about the shift knob. I like it except for those few instances where a little feedback in the way of hard limits would be nice. I still shift clockwise from drive to “more drive” every once and a while because a free-spinning dial gives me no tactile cues or says “hey, dummy, you’re already IN drive…”

Yeah, the feature isn't great for when your going reverse to drive or drive to reverse. Then hold brake is slightly annoying because it delays whats your trying to do.

I like the shift knob. But my issue is, if im needing to put it in reverse quickly, to dodge a potential accident, its difficult to land it on reverse quickly. That would be my only qualm with that.

This is a question that could ponder upon many individuals due to the vast price range spanning +$23,000 to +$40,000. This is a very large window leaving the Maverick more and less compelling depending on price.

When does it make sense? I believe it has no competition under $30k. Especially when pairing with the hybrid. You’re going to get better or equal mpg compared to gas savors like Honda civic. You get practicality of a truck bed. Makes little projects simple to load materials for. And you get king resale values of a truck. And the interior is tastefully designed considering budget friendly price. To me, nothing competes under $30k. Keep in mind, we are talking about brand new rather than used market for vehicles.

When does the Maverick begin to become less compelling. It begins so at $30k-$35k. The vehicles in this range have luxury like interiors available. Big improvements for tech and speakers. In general, creature comforts begin to become more vastly available and even standard. I believe the maverick in this price is still desirable though. But in a different way that requires the details. For example, still great mpg and very easy to park and maneuver due to size. Truck bed is still nice for suburban home owner use. Still not a lot of truck options in the price zone if this is what someone wants. Sure, now you can get a mid size truck, but you’re not getting it 4x4 under $35k. Still okay options available. But competition and expectations are defenately heating up. This price range also opens the door to a decent size crossovers like the Kia Sorrento.

I believe the Maverick loses most of its compelling appeal at $35k and up. I can see why many would still choose it though. But there are a lot of draw backs. At this price, you’re still getting a very plastic interior. Parts are not fitted great to begin with but its ignorable at the lower prices. I no longer think thats acceptable at this price. Leather seats are not impressive. Seats are very narrow even for smaller individuals. And no nice stitching work on the seat. Now you could consider an SUV. Or you can easily get a mid size truck with 4x4. Ultimately, in my opinion, when starting to consider a fully loaded model for any vehicle, its best to move to the next model up at base trim. High trims have higher percentage of deprecation than the lower trims. And ultimately, the vehicle was built on an affordable platform. I cant see paying near or over $40k for a vehicle that starts out at $23k. I cant see it. Especially when there is still soo much plastic. Yes I said it again. The high trim levels is where the automotive manufacture makes the most money. And for good reason, they are not worth what they are marked up. I am most often under whelmed by these loaded out models in general. Most do not have an appearance or feel to match their price.

I will end with this. The Ford Maverick is a fantastic vehicle at the end of the day. But the perspective of how great it is, deeply depends on the price tag. My perspective of the vehicle changes with the price. It’s a bargain or steal at some prices and possibly a questionable choice at others. Ultimately, the maverick seems as if it will have a cult following same as the tacoma does. Thanks for reading.
FOR ME, A POOR WIDOW at 68. I just wanted one last new vehicle, got 8 years worth of warranties, it's brand new, and for 32K, I love love love it. For me WAS the price and the height since I am 5' 3" Everyone has to make their own decisions tho! But this truck has it all for me.

I recently turned 60 so I did much the same. I splurged on a Lariat (albeit a modest one) and loaded the coverage. I even added replacement cost for 8 years just in case it has to be written off at some point. I wanted some price of mind as I prepare for a new stage in life.

I got the top of the line Maverick for just under $38k. It has a luxury feel that exceeds the $12k more expensive Explorer.

Everyone has their limits. But if you want a very nice truck that isn't the size and price of a yacht, the Maverick is it.

TLDR all but my take in brief:

It is a very average small truck.
But not as small as outsiders think.
Nothing exciting about it.
Very good utility.
Reasonable price.
Looks are handsome and traditional.

Not a "steal of a deal" because if there was more competition in the space, prices would be lower and there would be less hype about it.

I agree with the way you think. The Maverick was a great truck for the price when it first came out, it had no compitition except the Santa Cruz at a higher price. As the 23's, and 24's kept rising in price, and taking away features, the value is decreasing, and in 2025 there are going to be more choices from other manufactures to compete with Ford. I think Toyota will be the one to watch.

I dont think there will be any other options to compete for 25. But we should know here in prob 2-3 months. I think yes in 26 we can expect a Toyota option. Also I dont consider the Santa Cruz comp. I know its lumped to compete with the Maverick. But I think it actually competes with the Honda Ridgeline. Especially due to its larger price range. Its mpg is also less economical lile the Honda. It is a truck that looks like a car. The truck bed set up isnt really set up well for abundance of usual truck racks and other stuff. To me the Cruz is clearly over priced. I believe they completely missed the opportunity and sales show that. I do not understand their logic in making that. They already know the Honda does not sell that well. To me its just as confused as the Ridgeline. Manufactures need to understand people want a truck that is a truck. Not a car that has some truck use. Even though the Maverick is not a frame, its accomplished still being a truck in utility and looks. Regarding the Toyota, they are late to enter. By 2026 Ford will have already have had been out for 4 years dominating the market. They will have the kinks figured. They will have design improved. I think the Toyota will pick up the remaining people that want a mini truck but doesnt want to own a Ford. I personally dont think it will impact Ford much at all. And it def wont have a chance if it follows suit by offer a car that happens to have some truck use like Honda and Hyundai. I hope Toyota does a good job and makes it an actual competition.

I am always so surprised with how many people actually like adaptive cruise control. I do a lot of highway driving. And honestly I think its about as irritating as cheesy dual climate control. If i set my speed to 70. I want to go 70. I dont want to descretly slow down to 65 because of the vehicle infront of me. And sometimes not realize that it decreased my speed. Then once I realize, I have to then speed up, pass, and reset the cruise control. Not a fan. But from what I have been reading on here, a lot of people seem to love it.
You don't have to reset the cruise control to pass some one. Just step on the gas, and pass them when you take your foot off the gas, the cruise control returns to the speed you set it at.

When people are waiting for the light to turn green, they start to play with their phones, even though they have their foot on the brake, some times their vehicle creeps forward and hits the car in front of them. It happens more times then you think. Not any damage to either car, but would you like to be the car in front?

I chose the Maverick because I could just afford to buy it outright after taxes and warranty etc. I could have bought some else but it would not fit my lifestyle as nicely as the Mav does.

In my neck of the woods there are lots of luxury vehicles but most of this area is made up of generational homes with many family members paying for the home so the younger ones have money to burn.

It's a perfect amount of truck and utility for 80% of truck owners in North America. Then you factor in the price, and it becomes even better. I'll agree with the OP that the tippy top spec'd Mav is probably not as good a value as mid/low spec'd Mavs. But what is the purchaser using it for?

I wanted something I could fit in my garage and load the bed with the garage door closed. Something that could be adequate on unpaved logging roads. And, not $65k for a bloated monstrosity. It's perfectly sized for the odd job; in January we replaced our dining room table and chairs, and we loaded the old set in a nice warm garage. Our large dog hopped in the back seat and tagged along as we dropped off the set at the donation place. All from a small truck.

It's super utilitarian, practical and easy to work on. Yeah, there are corners cut and cheap materials in places, but it's still very well thought out.

It's also paid off, which is the best kind of truck.
