They don't have a choice since many states will not allow new ICE cars to be sold soon. The "good old days" of same day new car buying are gone (unless maybe you want a full-size pickup). They may return someday, but I think that will be years away. Since Ford is unable or unwilling to manufacture Mavericks, and most particularly Hybrid Mavericks, I plan on ordering a Hybrid Maverick every time the order book opens for a few days. I presume that only every other order will actually be built.
The most amusing thing about this situation is that nice Mr. Farley has stated that he wants to move Ford to a customer order model, instead of building vehicles for dealer stock. Then he makes Maverick, Bronco and other customers wait for YEARS to deliver vehicles. Instead of increasing production of vehicles that people want to buy, Ford focuses on EV production. I just read an article that said Ford loses $60,000 on each EV.
I am pretty sure that MY2024 Mavericks will be significantly more expensive.
That's how Tesla has stayed in business for years, losing tens of thousands of dollars on each EV but at least they make it up on volume.
Quit believing everything you read.
