D is a transmission gear selection on the knob. He’s talking about drive selector mode, which is the little button further behind it. Have you not found it yet?? It’s changes the way the vehicle drives when it is in “D”
Yes,have tried the different modes in deep snow and doesn't seem to make a difference, so i just leave it in D.

In my FWD Hybrid, I drive in Slippery Mode most of the time anyway because I get more MPG using it. I know Slippery Mode functions a bit different in my vehicle than an AWD and or ecoboost, but it seems to work best in snow, especially when going up a hill.

Tire selection makes a huge difference, and one of the most important things if driving in snow.

Wow. I notice huge differences. I would never try to beat somebody at a light without putting it into sport mode. You get much quicker acceleration. Jes my take.

I have used my slippery mode in my 2024 XLT Maverick and have not gotten stuck or slid in Erie, Pa. FYI first storm the truck was in was the 4ft snowstorm of Thanksgiving. When I do not use it, I notice a difference in traction. In addition, I had a wooden pallet in the bed. I would pick this truck over the AWD vehicles I have owned over the years.

So, what drive mode selection would be best for heavy snow. I have a 2024 XL with tow package. I don't have Snow/Mud mode I have Sport, Slippery, gen, eco, tow haul modes.

I had a foot or better snow amounts to go through did fine in sport but not sure what would be the best for snow.

Slippery is least likely to spin your tires.

But if you are in a case you WANT to spin your tires it will prevent this.

🤷🏻‍♂️

I can think of a case being on black ice where spinning your tires would melt the thin ice and get you to pavement with some "bite" maybe enough to get you going from a dead stop.
