Always funny to see people post about how they disable some useful feature because they don't want to be tracked. I'm a retired software engineer trained in cyber security. I've watched the information collected on users in real time using packet sniffers. Most people have no clue, and they pat themselves on the back because they blocked cookies on some app. ROTFL. You achieved nothing.

Unless you get paid in cash, do not have a Social Security number, do not have a credit card, do not drive, do not have email, do not use social media, do not use commercial productivity software, do not browse the Web, do not ever walk past millions of public security cameras, and do not ever operate any connected device - you are tracked 24x7x356 by innumerable sources. So get over it.

I find Ford Pass useful. I've started my car with it, checked oil changes with it, checked TPMS, checked vehicle location. It's cool but I wish it did more And if Ford asks me to collect information about every detail of what I do in the car - I'll happily approve it. Because that information doesn't harm me in any way. There is nobody on the planet who finds me interesting enough to monitor my personal life beyond collecting abstract and anonymized statistical information and generating personalized advertising.
If they sell data out of context to insurance companies, that's an entirely different thing. I'm a very safe driver, but data without context can be misleading. Do I trust their assertion that they don't share data with brokers that do business with insurance companies? No, I don't. That said, I may reinstall it. Or not. I don't find it particularly useful for my situation.

I used it for a short time and then disabled it, but it does have the ability to provide error codes if something goes wrong. If you call your dealer they will ask if for those error codes to help troubleshoot. I don’t believe the dealer can access those codes remotely without the app but chances are high you will have to bring it in to the dealer regardless. At the same time, many owners have reported no error codes when issues come up. I believe it also provides an easy way to add your service records to the Ford site. It also causes a parasitic drain on your battery when your vehicle is turned off but how much of a drain is open for debate. I just didn’t find it helpful as almost all information is available on your dashboard display.

I like the app. The key fob remote has a limited range but the app can start your truck from anywhere. You also get your service records as long as you service at the dealer as well as warranty info and diagnostic codes as well as recalls. Overall it is a good reference.

I've been in computers since 1985. I remember people telling how secure their computers are. It used to take me about 5 min. to get in and give them all their info.

How did you disable the connectivity functions in the truck?
You can turn off the wifi, auto updates and other communication functions using the menu on the audio screen.
Press settings, select fordpass connect, select connectivity settings and turn features on/off as desired.
Refer to page 377 of the owners manual if needed.

I didn't go any further than turning the features off, but.....If you want to go further than just turning those features off you can remove fuse 11 from the BCM which is a 5amp fuse for the telemtics unit. Removing that fuse will further "disconnect" the vehicle and the general consensus is it will hinder the gathering of driving data.

It is my understanding that if you do all the above the vehicle data recorder will still record vehicle operational info like acceleration, Braking, and other driver and non driver inputs in the event of a crash. But that's just my understanding of it's operation, I could be wrong.

Interesting. Thank you very much for your thorough reply!

The updated app now shows my truck somewhere in the Atlantic ocean when I'm home in California,,,,,,,dumb. The old app was better.
