What are the rear cabin wall flaps for?

Does anybody know what these flaps on the rear cabin wall (behind the rear seats) are for? At first I thought wire pass through but there are already two large grommets next to these flaps.

Pressure relief for when you close the doors

Keeps you from blowing out the windows when you slam the doors shut….. releases the pressure inside the cab.

It is also useful for rodents to gain access into the cabin. Some owners added wire to fend off the rodents.

It's for pressure relief when closing doors and air exit when running the HVAC on fresh~ air (not recirc.).

Wire mesh or just a small layer of copper wool inserted in the grill will keep rodents out. Don't use steel wool as it will oxidize/rust and eventually fall apart.

Everything that they said plus these things got enlarged with the introduction of airbags including the fact that many vehicles have so many nowadays. could you imagine the implication if they couldn't inflate as they do because there was a limiting factor to their function?
