I recently got my XLT Hybrid with a tri-fold cover. I noticed after a recent storm that I had a lot of water in the bed. Is this normal?

It depends a lot on the cover quality, fit and finish.

I installed my own and have little or no water after a rain or giving it a bath.

saw another post where the ford installed tri-fold had large gaps on the tailgate corners. I am buying one solely on reviews on how good it seals. I think it is fair to expect a little water after a car wash, but should keep contents dry. A lot of water is unacceptable in any situation. I would have my dealership fix or replace it.

I have the Ford hard trifold as well from the factory. I get a decent amount of soap and water in the bed during a carwash -- but I kind of expect that.

When it rains, I also get some leakage near the front sidewalls/corners and some through the tailgate corners. Unless I have something right in the corners, it's not a huge issue and seems to drain through the bed channels and drain holes decently.

I shoved some small weatherstripping in the front corner areas that i could see light through when I examined the bed/cover in the garage at night. I also bought some tailgate weather seal that I'm still waiting to install when the temps rise, hopefully next week. Hopefully this eliminates most of the leaking but we'll see!

I ordered the extang xceed - 5yr warranty, 500# load so I know I can stand on it. Good reviews on water tests. I watched a lot of install videos and paid attention to fit at the tail gate, ability to adjust for good fit. I also liked the clean 'hinge less' look and thought the fit and finish, particularly at the tailgate, looked good. I think it just became an offering because several large truck accessory retailers did not have it listed. Had to go to the extang site to get the part number to find who had it. I bought mine from autoanything and asked for the flash sale. so also bought for $870 free shipping

Which trifold is the best for keeping water out?

I got an Extang trifecta 2.0 and so far its done a good job keeping water out, although I haven't been caught in a down pour at highway speeds either. It has three individual seals around perimeter that does a good job. I've read that the OEM trifold might be a tad short.

You'll probably have to adjust the fit around the box. Also when I installed mine, the instructions say to tighten the fittings after about a week of driving.

No it is not normal. For over $1000.00 your bed should not get wet. I have a rollup and my bed gets wet. Slide under the cover when it is closed . You will see sunlight in all 4 corners. That is where the water is getting in.

Ford should notify the manufacturer and have this corrected. The first day it rained everything is my truck was wet. I have no idea what a Ford dealer can do to correct this. I’m sure they don’t have extra moulding laying around. When you go to a Ford dealer they will probably have your car for a full day, and then tell you to come back.

I tried to add extra moulding. It helped a little.

I would like to return my cover, but there is no way to do it.

I have a Ford trifold tonneau cover waiting for me at my dealership to be put on when my Maverick arrives. Hoping there won't be much water from rain. I have a hard fiberglass tonneau cover on my 2001 Ranger and I do get a little water in sometimes.

It’s an easy install. Don’t let them charge you a lot for the install..

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Get in it and have someone close the tailgate. Guessing Ford workers don't want to do that test and leave it up to us.

Or if you have a garage, put a shop light in the bed and close it up and turn off the garage lights, you should be able to see the light inside the bed through any gaps.

Don't just worry about water from the top. Road spray will enter the bed at the sides. If you want DRY, use a tarp. Tonneau offers security mainly and keeps stuff from flying out.
